Henry Bilson-Legge, 2nd Baron Stawell
Henry Bilson-Legge, 2nd Baron Stawell (22 February 1757 – 25 August 1820) was a British peer and landowner, serving as a member of the House of Lords from 1780 until his death in 1820. Stawell was the only son of the statesman Henry Bilson-Legge, Chancellor of the Exchequer (himself a son of William Legge, 1st Earl of Dartmouth) by his marriage on 11 September 1750 to Mary Stawell (died 29 July 1780), the daughter of Edward Stawell, 4th Baron Stawell, who on her father's death succeeded to her father's estates but not his title. Henry Bilson-Legge
Henry Bilson-Legge (29 May 1708 – 23 August 1764) was an English statesman. He notably served three times as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the 1750s and 1760s. Background and education Bilson-Legge was the fourth son of William Legge, 1st Earl of Dartmouth, by his wife Lady Anne, daughter of Heneage Finch, 1st Earl of Aylesford. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford. Political career He became private secretary to Sir Robert Walpole. In 1739 was appointed Chief Secretary for Ireland by the Lord Lieutenant, William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire; being chosen Member of Parliament for the borough of East Looe in 1740, and for Orford, Suffolk, at the general election in the succeeding year. Legge only shared temporarily in the downfall of Walpole, and became in quick succession Surveyor-General of Woods and Forests, a Lord of the Admiralty, and a Lord of the Treasury. Blucher (horse)
Blucher (1811–1841) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and Horse breeding#Terminology, sire named after the Prussian general officer, General Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, one of the most successful commanders of the Napoleonic Wars, but his name was invariably spelt without the Germanic umlaut, umlaut. Bred by Henry Bilson-Legge, 2nd Baron Stawell, Lord Stawell, and one of the many notable offspring of the great Waxy (horse), Waxy (1790–1818), Blucher's first year of racing was triumphant. Between July 1813 and June 1814 he ran five times and was unbeaten, his wins climaxing with Epsom Derby, The Derby of 1814. After that he had only one further race, at the beginning of the 1815 Flat racing, flat season, in which he placed second. He was then retired to stud at Marelands near Farnham, Surrey. Ralph Dutton (Conservative Politician)
The Hon. Ralph Heneage Dutton (5 August 1821 – 8 October 1892), was a British Conservative politician. Background Dutton was the third and youngest son of John Dutton, 2nd Baron Sherborne, by his marriage to the Hon. Mary Legge, only child and heiress of Henry Bilson-Legge, 2nd Baron Stawell. Political career Dutton was elected Member of Parliament for Hampshire South in 1857, a seat he held until 1865, and then represented Cirencester until 1868. Family Dutton married Isabella, daughter of John Mansfield, in 1848. He died in October 1892, aged 71. John Baron Dutton, 2nd Baron Sherborne (24 January 1779 – 18 October 1862), was a British peer. Background Sherborne was the son of James Dutton, 1st Baron Sherborne, of Sherborne, Gloucestershire, by his wife Elizabeth Coke (1753–1824), daughter of Wenman Coke and Elizabeth Chamberlayne. As a result of the Slave Compensation Act 1837, Sherborne was given £3,579 in compensation from the British government as the executor of Sir Rose Price, 1st Baronet, his brother-in-law; Price's estate included the "Worthy Park" slave plantation in Saint John Parish, Jamaica. Assheton Curzon, 1st Viscount Curzon (2 February 1730 – 21 March 1820), styled Lord Curzon between 1794 and 1802, was a British Tory politician.
