Dithmarschen
Dithmarschen (, ; archaic English: ''Ditmarsh''; ; ) is a district in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts of Nordfriesland, Schleswig-Flensburg, Rendsburg-Eckernförde, and Steinburg, by the state of Lower Saxony (district of Stade (district), Stade, from which it is separated by the Elbe river), and by the North Sea. From the 13th century up to 1559 Dithmarschen was an independent peasant republic within the Holy Roman Empire and a member of the Hanseatic League. It repulsed attempts by larger fiefs to annex it, whther physically (as with the invasions by Holstein in 1319 and 1404 or Battle of Hemmingstedt, Denmark in 1500) or legally (as with their successful court battle against Holstein in 1474-1481). Heide
Heide (; Holsatian: ''Heid'') is a town in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is the capital of the ''Kreis'' (district) Dithmarschen. Population: 22,000. The German word ''Heide'' means "heath". In the 15th century four adjoining villages decided to build a church in the "middle of the heath". This remained the town's name to date. The exact foundation date is now unknown, but by 1447 Heide was already the main village of Dithmarschen. At this time Dithmarschen was an independent peasant republic. Heide became a town in the 19th century. Heide has the largest un-built-upon market square in Germany, with 4.7 hectares. It is used primarily as a parking lot and has approximately 500 parking spaces. In 2016, the city staged 3 car-free Sundays on the market square for the first time. Wilhelm Wieben
Wilhelm Wieben (2 June 1935 – 13 June 2019) was a German journalist, actor and author, best known for presenting the daily news in '' Tagesschau'', the most-watched news program on German television, from 1973 to 1998. Biography Wieben was born in Hennstedt, Dithmarschen. After school he studied theater at ''Max-Reinhardt-Schule für Schauspiel'' in Berlin. Later he worked as a journalist for Radio Bremen and was a news presenter on the TV channel ARD in Tagesschau between 1973 and his retirement in 1998. Wieben has authored books in Low German, a regional language in Northern Germany. He is also heard (and briefly seen in the music video) in Falco's controversial hit song '' Jeanny'': The part of the Newsflash in the track is spoken by Wieben.
