Helicon (river)
Helicon (also transliterated Helikon) was a river attested in antiquity, which existed near the Macedonians (Greeks), Macedonian city of Dion, Pieria, Dion in Pieria (regional unit), Pieria.Jennifer Lynn Larson, ''Greek nymphs: myth, cult, lore'' (Oxford University Press US, 2001), 139. Pausanias (geographer), Pausanias describes it as Subterranean river, vanishing underground and resurfacing under a different name, and relates an Orphic tradition that the river sank after the maenads who had killed Orpheus tried to cleanse themselves of blood (and the ritual pollution of murder) in its waters. Helikon Opera
Helikon Opera is a Russian opera company based in Moscow, specializing in unconventional productions. Their main performing base is the 250 seat Mayakovsky Theater, the former ballroom in the palace of the Shakhovskoi-Glebov-Streshneva family who were patrons of the arts in 19th century Moscow. The company was founded by Dmitry Bertman and gave its first performance, Stravinsky's '' Mavra'', on April 10, 1990. Helikon Opera gives 200 performances a year, primarily in Moscow but also abroad, performing in the UK for the first time in 1997. The company's repertoire includes both mainstream works and rarely performed operas and chamber operas. In the past they have staged Fleishman's '' Rothschild's Violin'', Hindemith's '' Hin und zurück'' and Prokofiev's '' Maddalena'' and were the first company to revive Tchaikovsky's ''Undine'' (1994) and to stage Prokofiev's ''The Ugly Duckling'' (1992). In October 2010, Helikon gave the first performance of Tchaikovsky's ''Mazeppa Mazepa ...

Helicon Double Layer Thruster
The helicon double-layer thruster is a prototype electric spacecraft propulsion. It was created by Australian scientist Christine Charles, based on a technology invented by Professor Rod Boswell, both of the Australian National University. The design has been verified by the ESA, which is participating in its development. Theory of operation A helicon double-layer thruster (HDLT) is a type of plasma thruster, which ejects ionized gas at high velocity to provide thrust to a spacecraft. In this thruster design, gas is injected into a tubular chamber (the ''source tube'') with one open end. Radio frequency AC power (at 13.56 MHz in the prototype design) is coupled into a specially shaped antenna wrapped around the chamber. The electromagnetic wave emitted by the antenna causes the gas to break down and form a plasma. The antenna then excites a helicon wave in the plasma, which further heats the plasma. The device has a roughly constant magnetic field in the source tube ( ...

Helikon Vortex Separation Process
The Helikon vortex separation process is an aerodynamic uranium enrichment process designed around a device called a vortex tube. Paul Dirac thought of the idea for isotope separation and tried creating such a device in 1934 in the lab of Peter Kapitza at Cambridge. Other methods of separation were more practical at that time, but this method was designed and used in South Africa for producing reactor fuel with a uranium-235 content of around 3–5%, and 80–93% enriched uranium for use in nuclear weapons. The Uranium Enrichment Corporation of South Africa, Ltd. (UCOR) developed the process, operating a facility at Pelindaba (known as the 'Y' plant) to produce hundreds of kilograms of HEU. Aerodynamic enrichment processes require large amounts of electricity and are not generally considered economically competitive because of high energy consumption and substantial requirements for removal of waste heat. There are other ways in which it is advantageous, e.g. In simplicity, lack ...

Helicon (physics)
In electromagnetism, a helicon is a low-frequency electromagnetic wave that can exist in bounded plasmas in the presence of a magnetic field. The first helicons observed were atmospheric whistlers, but they also exist in solid conductorsBowers, R., Legéndy, C. R., and Rose, F. E. (November 1961) "Oscillatory galvanomagnetic effect in metallic Sodium". Physical Review Letters 7 (9): 339–341. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.7.339. or any other electromagnetic plasma. The electric field in the waves is dominated by the Hall effect, and is nearly at right angles to the electric current (rather than parallel as it would be without the magnetic field); so that the propagating component of the waves is corkscrew-shaped ( helical) – hence the term “helicon,” coined by Aigrain. Helicons have the special ability to propagate through pure metals, given conditions of low temperature and high magnetic fields. Most electromagnetic waves in a normal conductor are not able to do this, sinc ...

Helicon (crater)
Helicon is a small lunar impact crater that is located on the north part of the Mare Imbrium. The crater was named after 4th century BC Greek astronomer Helicon of Cyzicus, a friend and disciple of Plato. To the northwest is the prominent Sinus Iridum, a mountain-ringed bay on the mare A mare is an adult female horse or other equidae, equine. In most cases, a mare is a female horse over the age of three, and a filly is a female horse three and younger. In Thoroughbred horse racing, a mare is defined as a female horse more th .... Just to the east is the slightly smaller crater Le Verrier. Helicon is a nearly circular formation with inner walls that curve down to a relatively flat floor. There is a tiny craterlet located at the midpoint of the interior, and a small craterlet along the southwestern rim. Satellite craters According to convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater midpoint that is closest to Helicon. ...

Helicon Filter
Helicon Filter, also referred to as Helicon, Filter, or as HF, was a proprietary commercial and shareware photo editing software program for Microsoft Windows, similar to such programs as Adobe Photoshop and GIMP, developed and published by Helicon Soft Ltd. Unlike these other programs, Helicon Filter is designed primarily to edit and improve existing photos and not for graphics creation. Helicon Filter's interface also differs from other programs in that compact toolbars and menus containing editing tools are replaced with labeled "filter" tabs, each tab containing labeled edit options specific to a single aspect of the picture. Although some editors used to Photoshop-style programs may initially find this layout unfamiliar and unlike the standard toolbar layout, beginners and those who don't recognize the standard icons generally find this very helpful for getting through the editing process. Overview Helicon Filter, formally Helicon NoiseFilter, was introduced in August, 200 ...
