Meißen
Meissen ( ), is a town of approximately 30,000 about northwest of Dresden and 75 km (46 mi) west of Bautzen on both banks of the Elbe river in the Free State of Saxony, in eastern Germany. Meissen is the home of Meissen porcelain, the Albrechtsburg castle, the Gothic architecture, Gothic Meissen Cathedral and the Meissen Frauenkirche. The ''Große Kreisstadt'' is the capital of the Meissen district. History It grew out of the early Polabian Slavs, West Slavic settlement of ''Miśni'' inhabited by Glomatians and was founded as a German town law, German town by King Henry the Fowler in 929. In 968, the Diocese of Meissen was founded, and Meissen became the episcopal see of a bishop. The Catholic bishopric was suppressed in 1581 after the diocese accepted the Protestant Reformation (1559), but re-created in 1921 with its seat first at Bautzen and now at the Katholische Hofkirche in Dresden. ''Trace of Stones'' (, ) is a 1966 Cinema of Germany#East German Cinema 1945 - 1989, East German film by Frank Beyer. It was based on the eponymous novel by Erik Neutsch and starred Manfred Krug in the main role. After its release, the film was shown only for a few days, before being shelved due to conflicts with the Socialist Unity Party of Germany, Socialist Unity Party, the ruling communist party in the German Democratic Republic. Only after 23 years was the film shown again, in November 1989. Plot synopsis The film takes place at a fictional petrochemical plant. There are very disorganized working conditions caused by incompetent officials, faulty plans, material deficits and delinquent behavior. One of the main characters, Hannes Balla (Manfred Krug), works on the plant and is seen as the masculine head of his crew, the Ballas. No Place To Go (2000 Film)
''No Place to Go'' () is a German black-and-white film released in April 2000, directed by Oskar Roehler, starring Hannelore Elsner, about a suicidal middle-aged writer travelling around Germany at a time of personal crisis. The movie won the Best Film Award at the 50th Deutscher Filmpreis "Lola Awards" in June 2000, while Elsner also won the Best Actress Award for her performance. It was also nominated for three national film Awards outside Germany and was entered for the Cannes Film Festival. In April 2001, it won the Golden Tulip Award at the International Istanbul Film Festival. Background The film echoed the life of Gisela Elsner, the mother of the film's director, Oskar Roehler. A strong believer in Lenin, and for many years a member of the German Communist Party, Elsner was one of the most radical satirical writers in West Germany and had won the Prix Formentor in 1964.
