Haydar Saltık
Ali Haydar Saltık (1923, Istanbul – 8 April 2011) was a Turkish general. He was Commander of the First Army of Turkey (1981 – 1983) and then Commander of the Turkish Army (1983 – 1985). He was Secretary-General of the Presidential Council. In September 1979 General Kenan Evren ordered a hand-written report from Saltık on whether or not a coup was in order, or if the government merely needed a stern warning. The report, which recommended preparing for a coup, was delivered in six months. Mustafa Necdet Üruğ (19 February 1921 – 18 April 2021) was a Turkish general and the nephew of Faruk Gürler. The Presidential Council () was an advisory body in Turkey lasting from 1983 to 1989. It comprised the military commanders who joined General Kenan Evren in the 1980 coup d'état. Kenan Evren
Ahmet Kenan Evren (17 July 1917 – 9 May 2015) was a Turkish military officer and dictator who served as the seventh president of Turkey from 1980 to 1989. He assumed the post by leading the 1980 military coup. On 18 June 2014, a Turkish court sentenced him to life imprisonment and demotion of his military rank, (down to private from army general) for leading the military coup in 1980. He was found guilty of obstructing democracy by deposing the prime minister Süleyman Demirel and of abolishing the parliament, senate and the constitution. The 1980 Turkish coup d'état (), headed by Chief of the General Staff General Kenan Evren, was the third coup d'état in the history of the Republic of Turkey, the previous having been the 1960 coup and the 1971 coup by memorandum. During the Cold War era, Turkey saw political violence (1976–1980) between the far-left, the far-right ( Grey Wolves), the Islamist militant groups, and the state.
