Haukat Järvenpää
The Jääurheiluseura Hawks, commonly known as the Haukat ('Hawks'), is a men's ice hockey team in the Suomi-sarja, the third-tier professional ice hockey league in Finland. The team is based in Järvenpää, in the Uusimaa, Uusimaa region of southern Finland, and their Home (sports), home arena is the Järvenpää Ice Hall (). History Founded in 1979, the team faced relegation to the Suomi-sarja after losing the Mestis regular season in 2005–06. After years of financial trouble and facing the prospect of relegation, Haukat gave up their place in Mestis and ended their hockey activities for a few years. Haukat started playing hockey again during the season 2009–2010. Haukat started playing in 2. Divisioona, which is the fourth highest level of hockey in finland. The team was promoted to Suomi-sarja for 2017–2018 season. Järvenpää (; , ; ) is a town in Finland, located in the southern interior of the country. Järvenpää is situated in the centre of the Uusimaa region in the immediate vicinity of Lake Tuusula. The population of Järvenpää is approximately . It is the most populous Municipalities of Finland, municipality in Finland. Kimmo Kuhta
Kimmo Kuhta (born June 19, 1975) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey forward. Apart from spending the 2005–06 season in the Swiss league, Kuhta represented HIFK in the SM-liiga from 1998 to the end of his career in 2013. He played a total of 728 games in HIFK, second only to Pertti Lehtonen with 851 on the team, and also holds the record for most goals in HIFK with 248 in total. For his long and successful career on the team, he is considered an iconic HIFK player and a favorite among fans. Jari Kurri
Jari Pekka Kurri (; born 18 May 1960) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey player. Beginning in 1980, he played Winger (ice hockey), right wing for five National Hockey League (NHL) teams: the Edmonton Oilers, the Los Angeles Kings, the New York Rangers, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and the Colorado Avalanche. Kurri played 17 seasons in the NHL and was the first Finnish player to be enshrined into the Hockey Hall of Fame, in 2001. He was a member of a Stanley Cup-winning team five times, all with the Oilers. In 2017, Kurri was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history. Jari Viuhkola
Jari Viuhkola (born 27 February 1980) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey centre. He represented Kärpät in the Finnish SM-liiga. Viuhkola's career ended with season 2014–2015, after suffering from knee injuries. His last playing sessions he met with Mestis-team Kajaanin Hokki. Playing career After playing for Kärpät for his entire professional career to that date, Viuhkola signed a two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils in the 2007 offseason. Petri Johannes Varis (born May 13, 1969) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey forward. He was drafted by the San Jose Sharks as their 6th-round pick in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Starting his pro career with Karhu-Kissat in the Finnish first division, Varis played his first SM-liiga games with Ässät in the 1991–92 season. After two seasons with Ässät, Varis moved to Jokerit, where he finished his seventh full season in 2005. With Jokerit, Varis won 4 Finnish championships and 2 European Cups. In 1997, Varis moved to North America, where he played a season with the Indianapolis Ice in the IHL, as well as a single NHL game with the Chicago Blackhawks. Suomi-sarja
The Suomi-sarja is Finland's third highest ice hockey league. Suomi-sarja has 14 teams. Suomi-sarja has been played since the 1999–2000 season. Prior to this, Finland's third league had been Division II since 1975 and before that the Provincial Series since 1947. During the 1990s the series also included an Estonian team. The series was played in two segments in the 2006–2007 season. During the 2007–2008 season there were four divisions. Teams playing in the Suomi-sarja can be relegated to the 2. Divisioona or promoted to Mestis. During the 2022–23 season, there are 13 teams. Mestis
Mestis (from , meaning 'Championship series', stylized as MEST1S) is the second-highest men's ice hockey league in Finland. The league was established by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association in 2000 to replace the I-divisioona ('First Division'). Being promoted to SM-liiga is possible if a Mestis team beats a SM-liiga club in the qualification series and matches all the criteria set by the SM-liiga. Mestis, however, is an open league where relegation and promotion are possible with the 3rd league, Suomi-sarja. Mestis is also the highest league governed by the FIHA.
