Hasan Rıza (1858, Istanbul – 16 March 1913, Edirne)Süheyl Ünver: ''Şehit Ressam Hasan Rıza ve Resimleri'', Trakya Üniversitesi Yayınları, Online @ Eğitim Bilişim Ağı was a military painter from the Ottoman Empire. He was killed during the Balkan Wars, and is considered to be a "Şehit" (martyr). Biography His father was Miralay (Colonel) Şakir Bey. He began painting at an early age, and studied at the Kuleli Military High School. In 1876, as did many of his classmates, he volunteered to serve in the Russo-Turkish War, and was wounded in the forehead. While recuperating, he noticed a newspaper story about an Italian painter who was working the front lines as a war artist. He applied to be the painter's bodyguard, and the request was granted. When he showed him some of his work, a friendship developed. After the war, he entered the Turkish Military Academy, but switched to the Naval Academy in 1881. Hasan Rıza Pasha
Hasan Rıza Pasha (1871 – 30 January 1913) was a Turkish general in the Ottoman Army. Life The son of the distinguished Ottoman statesman Mehmed Namık Pasha, who was the Governor of Baghdad where Hasan Riza was born. He was of Turkish origin, as Mehmed Namık's grandfather migrated from Konya to Constantinople. He entered the Ottoman Military Academy in 1892 and graduated on March 13, 1895. He continued his studies in Germany (1899–1900). After serving in Iraq (1901–-1911) he was promoted to the rank of ''General'' and assigned as wali of Shkodër. He was the main commander during the Siege of Shkodër and became the symbol of resistance against the Serbian and Montenegrin invasion. He did his utmost to defend the town, stating ''"Shkodra is our fate or our grave, but not our shame"''. He was assassinated by Osman Bali and Mehmed Kavaja, both servants of Essad Pasha. Mehmed The Conqueror
Mehmed II (; , ; 30 March 14323 May 1481), commonly known as Mehmed the Conqueror (; ), was twice the sultan of the Ottoman Empire from August 1444 to September 1446 and then later from February 1451 to May 1481. In Mehmed II's first reign, he defeated the crusade led by John Hunyadi after the Hungarian incursions into his country broke the conditions of the truce per the Treaties of Edirne and Szeged. When Mehmed II ascended the throne again in 1451, he strengthened the Ottoman Navy and made preparations to attack Constantinople. At the age of 21, he conquered Constantinople and brought an end to the Byzantine Empire. Fausto Zonaro
Fausto Zonaro (18 September 1854 – 19 July 1929) was an Italian painter, best known for his realist style paintings of life and history of the Ottoman Empire. Life Young life and early art career Fausto Zonaro was born in Masi, a municipality in the Province of Padua, then part of the Austrian Empire. He was the eldest child of the mason Maurizio and his wife Elisabetta Bertoncin. Maurizio intended that his son should also be a mason, yet at a young age, Fausto showed a great ability at drawing. With his parents’ consent, he enrolled first in the Technical Institute in Lendinara, then in the Cignaroli Academy in Verona under Napoleone Nani. Fausto opened a small art school and studio in Venice, but traveled often to Naples as well. He felt no clear direction in his life at that time. Sami Yetik (1878, Istanbul – 1945, Istanbul) was a Turkish Impressionist painter; primarily of cityscapes and landscapes. Biography His father, Hacı Raşid Efendi, was a merchant. After completing his primary education, he attended Kuleli Military High School. Although interested in art, he gave no thought to pursuing it as a career until he made friends with , whose passion for painting inspired him to consider it. He was also encouraged by Osman Nuri Pasha (painter), Osman Nuri Pasha, who was a teacher there at the time. In 1896, when he entered the Turkish Military Academy, he began his studies with Hoca Ali Rıza, who continued to support his career after his graduation in 1898.
