Harmon, North Dakota
Harmon is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community in Morton County, North Dakota, United States. It is north of Mandan and northwest of Bismarck, the state capital. Harmon's population was 259 as of the 2020 census. History The town was sited on July 23, 1913, by Willis T. McConnell and named for two bachelor brothers, George and H.H. Harmon. The town went into decline during the Depression in the 1930s and virtually disappeared. The original cemetery is still in use. On January 15, 1951, two Northern Pacific freight trains collided outside of town. The town has repopulated in the 20th century. Mandan Public Schools
Mandan Public School District 1, also called Mandan Public Schools, is a school district headquartered in Mandan, North Dakota. Located in Morton County, it serves Mandan and Harmon. The district takes high school students from the Sweet Briar School District. - Alternate title:Sweet Briar School looks ahead amid record enrollment of 22 History In 1974 the district sold $90,000 of bonds so it could build a vocational center at its secondary facility. In 1981 the district was considering adding an expansion of its elementary school. North Dakota Highway 1806
North Dakota Highway 1806 (ND 1806) is a state highway in the U.S. state of North Dakota. ND 1806 and ND 1804 were named to reflect the years of Lewis and Clark's travels through the area, and run along the southwest and northeast sides of the Missouri River, respectively. ND 1806 consists of four separate segments, running along Lake Sakakawea and the Missouri River in McKenzie, Dunn, Mercer, Oliver, Morton, and Sioux Counties. Within the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in Sioux County, ND 1806 forms the northern segment of the Native American Scenic Byway, a national scenic byway. Northern Pacific Railway
The Northern Pacific Railway was an important American transcontinental railroad that operated across the northern tier of the Western United States, from Minnesota to the Pacific Northwest between 1864 and 1970. It was approved and chartered by the 38th Congress of the United States in the national / federal capital of Washington, D.C., during the last years of the American Civil War (1861-1865), and received nearly of adjacent land grants, which it used to raise additional money in Europe (especially in President Henry Villard's home country of the new German Empire), for construction funding.
