Harem Scarem (album)
''Harem Scarem'' is the 1991 debut album by the Canadian hard rock band of the same name. Music videos were shot for the songs; " Slowly Slipping Away", " Honestly", and "With a Little Love". The album charted at No. 68 on the Canadian charts. However two singles from the album, "Honestly" and "Something to Say", were big hits in Indonesia and the Philippines. The album includes guest appearances by fellow Canadian stars such as Ray Coburn of Honeymoon Suite, Carl Dixon of Coney Hatch and Paul MacAusland of Haywire. It also boasted a co-writing credit by award-winning songwriter Christopher Ward of " Black Velvet" fame. Connection to Degrassi In 1992, Harem Scarem was able to gain some notoriety when 8 songs from their debut album were predominantly featured in the Canadian teen series ''Degrassi Junior High'' and '' Degrassi Highs farewell TV movie, '' School's Out''. Harem Scarem is a Canadian hard rock/melodic hard rock band from Toronto, Ontario. Harem Scarem initially (the early 1990s) achieved popularity in their native Canada and Japan. The band was active from 1987 to 2008, and again from 2013 after reforming. Throughout their career, they have released 16 studio albums (including two releases as Rubber in Canada, but not the vinyl re-issue in 2023 of Mood Swings), plus numerous live and compilation albums, and a re-record of Mood Swings (as Mood Swings II) in 2013. Totals record sales are in excess of one million worldwide. History 1987–2008 Harem Scarem was formed in 1987 by guitarist Pete Lesperance and singer Harry Hess, formerly of Blind Vengeance who had recorded two heavy metal albums in the 1980s. Carl Dixon
Carleton Anthony "Carl" Dixon is a Canadian rock singer, keyboard player and guitarist. He has been a member of the bands Coney Hatch, April Wine and The Guess Who. Early life and education Dixon was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and grew up listening to rock music in the 1970s. He graduated from Barrie North Collegiate Institute in 1977. Career Dixon moved to Montreal in 1979 to perform with a band called Firefly. In 1981, he left Firefly, moving to Toronto, where he answered an advertisement from the band Coney Hatch, becoming its lead singer. While with Coney Hatch, he wrote and co-wrote many of their hits, such as "Hey Operator" and "Devil's Deck". He spent most of the 1980s touring with Coney Hatch, opening for Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind Tour across North America, and Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance tour 1982. Robert Dean McTaggart is a Canadian singer-songwriter and record producer. His most recent album is ''Drop the Needle in the Groove'' from 2010. Biography McTaggart was the lead vocalist in the Canadian band The Arrows from 1981 to 1986. The Arrows produced two albums and one EP and had popular hits in Canada including "Meet Me in the Middle", "Say It Isn't True", "Heart of the City", "Never Be Another One" and "Talk Talk". ''Degrassi High'' is a Canadian teen drama television series created by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood. It is the third entry in the '' Degrassi'' franchise and the direct continuation of '' Degrassi Junior High'', and was broadcast on the CBC from 6 November 1989 to 18 February 1991. The series follows the lives of those attending the titular fictional school. It addresses a variety of topics, ranging from mundane coming-of-age dilemmas to serious and controversial topics such as abortion, cancer, suicide and HIV/AIDS.
