Hanımzer Melet
Hanımzer Melet (born 7 November 1993) is a Turkish wheelchair basketball player. She is a member of the physically disabled sports club in her hometown Van as the only female player and the Turkey women's national wheelchair basketball team. Sport career During the time at the rehab center in Ankara following her injury, she watched disabled people performing sport. She got interested in wheelchair basketball. In 2020, after overcoming psychological problems, she accepted the invitation of the physically disabled sports club in her hometown Van and joined the wheelchair basketball team. She became the only women member of the club's wheelchair basketball team. Already in her early years, she was called up to the Turkey women's national wheelchair basketball team selection camp. She could not take part due to a foot burn. She was later invited to the natioanal team preparation camp in Hakkari mid July. Wheelchair basketball is a style of basketball played using a sports wheelchair. The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) is the governing body for this sport. It is recognized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as the sole competent authority in wheelchair basketball worldwide. FIBA has recognized IWBF under Article 53 of its General Statutes. The IWBF has 95 National Organizations for Wheelchair Basketball (NOWBs) participating in wheelchair basketball throughout the world, with this number increasing each year. The Turkey women's national wheelchair basketball team () is the wheelchair basketball side that represents Turkey in international competitions for women. The national team finished sixth at the Women's European Wheelchair Basketball Championship held June 28 – July 8, 2013, in Frankfurt, Germany, after losing to Spain with 39–59 in the play-offs. Hakkâri (), formerly known as Julamerk, (, , ) is a city and the seat of Hakkâri District in the Hakkâri Province of Turkey. The city is populated by Kurds and had a population of 58,470 in 2023. 2023 IWBF Women's European Championship
The 2023 IWBF Women's European Championship was the 19th edition of the European Wheelchair Basketball Championship. It took place from 11 to 18 August 2023 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The wheelchair basketball tournament was part of the first edition of the European Para Championships, a quadrennial multi-sport event that is to take place each pre-Paralympic year. The winner and runner-up of this tournament qualified for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris. Format The six teams that qualified for the tournament compete in a preliminary round to determine the top four teams that advance to the knockout stage. A spinal cord injury (SCI) is damage to the spinal cord that causes temporary or permanent changes in its function. It is a destructive neurological and pathological state that causes major motor, sensory and autonomic dysfunctions. Symptoms of spinal cord injury may include loss of muscle function, sensation, or autonomic function in the parts of the body served by the spinal cord below the level of the injury.
