Hanna Katrín Friðriksson
Hanna Katrín Friðriksson (born 4 August 1964) is an Icelandic politician and businesswoman and a former national handball player. Hanna Katrín was elected to Althing for Viðreisn in Reykjavík South (Althing constituency), Reykjavík South in 2016 Icelandic parliamentary election, 2016. She played handball for many years and became a four-time cup champion as well as playing 34 national matches on behalf of Iceland. Family She was born in Paris, France and her parents are Torben Friðriksson (1934-2012), a government accountant, and Margrét Björg Þorsteinsdóttir (1930-2016), a teacher. Her spouse is Ragnhildur Sverrisdóttir and they have twin daughters born in 2001. The Icelandic Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture (Icelandic: ') is a cabinet-level ministry. It is an important economic ministry, with fisheries products making up about 40% of Iceland's exports. History On 13 June 2007 the parliament of Iceland passed law changes to merge the Ministry of Fisheries and the Ministry of Agriculture, which took effect on 1 January 2008. In 2011 Steingrímur J. Sigfússon took on the roles of Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture and Minister of Economic Affairs. 2016 Icelandic Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Iceland on 29 October 2016. They were due to be held on or before 27 April 2017, but following the 2016 Icelandic anti-government protests, the ruling coalition announced that early elections would be held "in autumn". The Independence Party emerged as the largest in the Althing, winning 21 of the 63 seats; the Progressive Party, which had won the most seats in 2013, lost more than half its seats as it was overtaken by the Left-Green Movement and the Pirate Party. ''Knattspyrnufélagið Fram'' (, ) is a professional Icelandic sports club, best known for its football and handball teams. It was founded on 1 May 1908 in Reykjavík. It was based at Safamýri, in the Háaleiti og Bústaðir district near Reykjavík city centre before slowly moving operations to the newly established Grafarholt district. The football team currently plays in the top division, the Besta deild karla after being promoted in the 2021 season. The club also has strong handball teams; the men's team won the Icelandic championship in 2013. Other sports offered by the club include basketball, taekwondo and skiing. Football Fram is one of the most successful clubs in Iceland: it has eighteen national championship titles and seven national cup titles, and it is regarded as one of the biggest teams in Iceland. ''Morgunblaðið'' (, ''The Morning Paper'') is an Icelandic daily newspaper. ''Morgunblaðið''s website, mbl.is, is the most popular website in Iceland. It is currently the country's only daily printed newspaper and the newspaper of record. History ''Morgunblaðið'' was founded by Vilhjálmur Finsen and Ólafur Björnsson, brother of Iceland's first president, Sveinn Björnsson. The first issue, only eight pages long, was published on 2 November 1913. On 25 February 1964, the paper first printed a caricature by Sigmúnd Jóhannsson which featured the first landings on Surtsey. Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson (; born 19 December 1967) is an Icelandic politician who served as Minister for the Environment, Energy and Climate from 2021 to 2024 and previously minister of foreign affairs from 2017 to 2021. Early life and education Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson graduated with a BA degree in Political Sciences from the University of Iceland in 1996. Political career Guðlaugur started his involvement in the Independence party in 1987 when he was elected on the board of the National Youth Organisation of the Independence Party in which he served until 1997 of which he was vice chairman 1989–1993 and chairman 1993–1997.
