The Albert Hall is a hall in Canberra, Australia, used for entertainment. It is on Commonwealth Avenue between Commonwealth Bridge and the Hotel Canberra in the suburb of Yarralumla. Overview The hall was opened on 10 March 1928 by the Prime Minister, Stanley Bruce. Bruce named the hall, explaining at the opening ceremony that he had chosen the name from the Royal Albert Hall in London and also because it was the first name of The Duke of York (later George VI) and furthermore that it commemorated the " Consort of the Queen who had proclaimed the Australian Commonwealth". The hall was originally designed by the Federal Capital Commission architect David Limburg, under Chief Architect Henry Rolland, then amended before construction. Yarralumla Woolshed, Australian Capital Territory
The Yarralumla Woolshed in the Australian Capital Territory is a building of historical significance and is listed on the Act Heritage Register. It is a symbol of Canberra's growth from pastoral town to major city. The shed was built in 1904 by Frederick Campbell who at that time owned Yarralumla Homestead which is now Government House. Today the woolshed is owned by the ACT Government and is an important community social centre and a venue for folk concerts, bush dances and is available for weddings. Early history Frederick Campbell (1846-1928) who built Yarralumla Woolshed came from a wealthy pastoral family. His grandfather was Robert Campbell who owned Duntroon and several other large properties. He bought the Yarralumla Estate in 1881 and made major improvements and additions to the area. The National Convention Centre Canberra is a convention centre located in Canberra, Australia, which opened in 1989. The Centre is Canberra's largest, purpose-built functions, meetings and events venue, and is managed by InterContinental Hotels Group. It provides a collection of more than 13 spaces over two floors. The Centre hosts sporting events, concerts, trade fairs and meetings. The Royal Theatre, the largest space, can accommodate 2,460; the Exhibition Hall has space for up to 2,000.
