Hallå Västindien is a song written by Anders Melander, originally intended to be a dansband parody song for the TV series '' Lycka till'' in 1980. Recorded by Felix, it acted as a B-side for the single ''Tomorrow''. A Vikingarna recording on the 1981 album '' Kramgoa låtar 9''. became one of the band's most successful hit songs ever. In 1981 the song was also recorded by Curt Haagers and released as a single. The song was also performed by Date during Dansbandskampen 2008. Dansbandskampen 2008
''Dansbandskampen'' is a television show established by Peter Settman and his production company Baluba. Peter Settman is also the show host. The show is broadcast over Sveriges Television, with season 1 airing October–December 2008. In 2008, five bands participated each week. Each week consisted of one moment where the bands were free to perform a pop or rock song, followed up by the second moment, ''Dansbandsklassikern'' ("The dansband classic"), where a famous dansband song was performed, chosen by drawing. The finalist bands are given an own, new own-produced song, followed up by the two remaining bands performing their own version of a song. There are discussions of spreading the concept outside Sweden, with a disco/folk music version in Poland and a country music version in the United States. Vikingarna (band)
Vikingarna is a Swedish dansband formed in Karlstad in 1958. It is the best-selling dansband, and one of the best-selling artists, in Scandinavia and is often regarded as the greatest dansband to have existed. At the time of its 2004 dissolution it had sold more than 11 million records. History 1958–1973: Formation and early years In 1958, as skiffle bands were reaching the height of their popularity in Europe, Ji-Coo and the Vikings were formed in Sweden, with Gunnar Olsson on guitar, Hans Axelsson on bass, Egon Olsson on drums, Svante Valjestöl on keyboards, Jens “Ji-Coo” Carlson on saxophone, and Newman Alexander on trumpet. The band did not have a lead singer at first, but after a series of auditions, Kerstin Larsson was hired for the job.
