Hallyburton Johnstone Shield
The Hallyburton Johnstone Shield is the premier domestic women's one-day cricket competition in New Zealand. The tournament began in 1935–36, as a first-class competition, but is now played as a 50-over competition, with six provincial teams taking part: Auckland, Canterbury, Central Districts, Northern Districts, Otago and Wellington. The tournament now runs alongside the Twenty20 Women's Super Smash. The most successful side in the history of the competition are Canterbury, with 38 outright title wins and 1 shared title. The current holders are Otago, who beat Auckland in the final of the 2024–25 season. North Shore Women's Cricket Team
The North Shore women's cricket team was the women's representative cricket team for North Shore. They played their home games primarily at Devonport Domain, Devonport. From 1965–66 to 1989–90 they competed in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, and won the tournament three times. They were replaced in the competition by North Harbour, who in turn merged with Auckland. History North Shore joined the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield in 1965–66, when the tournament was 2-day competition, finishing third out of five teams in their first year of competing. Otago Sparks
The Otago Sparks is the women's cricket representative team for the New Zealand region of Otago and the surrounding area. They play their home games at University Oval, Dunedin. They compete in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition and the Women's Super Smash Twenty20 competition. History Otago made their first appearance in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield in 1939–40, where they lost to Wellington Blaze, Wellington. The following period in the one-day competition was dominated by Auckland Hearts, Auckland and Wellington Blaze, Wellington, however, and Otago did not record a second-place finish until 1957–58. The Auckland Hearts is the women's representative cricket team for the New Zealand region of Auckland. They play their home games at Eden Park Outer Oval. They compete in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition and the Women's Super Smash Twenty20 competition. History The first recorded match by an Auckland women's team was in 1935, against the touring England team, which ended in a draw. Central Hinds
The Central Hinds are the women's representative cricket team of Central Districts Cricket Association, based in central New Zealand. The Major Association team is the only female team to draw players from both the main islands of New Zealand. They play their home games at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth, Fitzherbert Park, Palmerston North, Saxton Oval, Nelson and McLean Park, Napier. 1982 Women's Cricket World Cup
The 1982 Women's Cricket World Cup, known as the 1982 Hansells Vita Fresh World Cup for sponsorship purposes, was an international cricket tournament played in New Zealand from 10 January to 7 February 1982. Hosted by New Zealand for the first time, it was the third edition of the Women's Cricket World Cup, coming four years after the previous 1978 World Cup in India. The tournament, which featured a triple round-robin, was at the time the longest World Cup both in duration and the number of matches played. Five teams were originally invited in addition to the hosts, but the Netherlands were unable to attend and the West Indies withdrew in protest at New Zealand hosting the 1981 South Africa rugby union tour during the apartheid-era in South Africa. Hallyburton Johnstone
Hallyburton Johnstone (23 August 1897 – 10 August 1970) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. Biography Johnstone was born in Raglan in 1897, the son of Campbell Johnstone. He was educated at Te Uku, Whata Whata, and Auckland Grammar School. He served in the NZEF from 1916 to 1918. In 1920, he married Gladys R. Morris, with whom he was to have three sons. He farmed sheep and cattle in the Raglan area. He won the Raglan electorate in 1946 in the by-election caused by the death of the previous MP, Robert Coulter. However, he only held the electorate from 5 March to 27 November 1946 as he was defeated by Alan Baxter in the 1946 general election. In 1949 he won Raglan back for National, and held it to 1957 when he instead contested and won the electorate. He held this seat until his retirement in 1963. The North Harbour women's cricket team was the women's representative cricket team for the North Shore and Rodney District. From 1990–91 to 1993–94 they competed in the New Zealand Pub Charities National Tournament, replacing North Shore. The team merged with Auckland ahead of the 1994–95 season. The Women's Super Smash, known for sponsorship reasons as the Dream11 Super Smash, is a women's Twenty20 competition organised by New Zealand Cricket. The competition began in 2007–08 and features six teams, who play each other twice in a double round-robin format. The winner of the group advances to the final, and the second and third placed teams play in an elimination final. The competition runs alongside the 50-over Hallyburton Johnstone Shield.
