Halkapınar Maintenance Facility
The Halkapınar Maintenance Facility is the maintenance facility and depot for the İzmir Metro. It is located in Halkapınar right next to İzmir Metro's Halkapınar station as well as the Halkapınar railway station. The facility was built in 2000 along with the metro itself. It can store 140 cars on its yard and service up to 7 trains at a time.İzmir Metro brochure (pdf file)


Overview

There are 3 tracks that connect to the metro line: two tracks westbound (Hatay) and one track eastbound (Bornova-Evka 3). The facility also houses the headquarters for İzmir Metro A.Ş., the holding company responsible for operation of the line. Near the front entrance there is a preserved heritage tram from the 1920s that used to run on the streets of

The İzmir Metro () is a Medium-capacity rail system, light metro system serving the city of İzmir, Turkey. The current system, consisting of M1 (İzmir Metro), one line, starts from Narlıdere Kaymakamlık station in the southwestern portion of the metropolitan area and runs towards northeast to end at Evka 3 (İzmir Metro), Evka-3 in Bornova. İzmir's metro line is long, and serves 24 stations as of 4 March 2024. Overview By 1990, it was thought that the existing public transport system in Izmir could no longer support the growing population. A plan was thought of to build a rapid transit network by rail to cope with this. A contract was signed in 1993, and the handover was in 1994. Construction had begun in 1995 and it was completed successfully in around 4 years. In May 2000, the system came into public service.
