Hakkı Akansel
İsmail Hakkı Akansel (1924 – 15 May 2016) was a Turkish military general and politician. In 1980, Akansel was appointed Mayor of Istanbul following the 1980 Turkish coup d'état and the establishment of military rule in Turkey. He served as the mayor of Istanbul from September 1980 to August 1981. He commanded the War Academies, the Second Army and the Aegean Army. He retired from the military in 1985. Aytekin Kotil
Aytekin Kotil (1934–1992) was a Turkish social democratic politician. He was the mayor of Istanbul being a pioneer in the municipal socialism in Turkey. He was also a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Turkish Parliament. Early life and education Kotil was born in Gündoğdu, Rize, on 21 February 1934. He had three brothers. He was a graduate of Vefa High School, Istanbul. He received a degree in law from the law faculty of Istanbul University in 1960. Career Following his graduation Kotil worked as a lawyer in Istanbul. He joined the Republican People's Party (CHP) and became active in the CHP's Istanbul organization. Aegean Army
The Aegean Army or Fourth Army is one of the four main formations of the Turkish Army. It covers the entire west coast of the Anatolia peninsula and has its headquarters in İzmir. It was organised in the 1970s in response to political tensions with Greece – the ongoing Aegean dispute and the Cyprus problem. Its stated mission is to protect Turkey's territory on its western coast. This is directed against the perceived threat posed by Greece's armament of the Aegean Sea islands.
