Hafez Awards
Hafez Awards (Persian: جایزه حافظ) is an annual awards ceremony which honors achievements in Iranian cinema. The awards, first presented in 1997, are presented by Picture World Magazine (Aka. Donyaye Tassvir in Persian) which is why they are also known as Donyaye Tassvir Awards. It is the only non-governmental ceremony among the cinematic festivals and awards held in Iran. Mehran Modiri and Asghar Farhadi with 9 Hafez statues each have jointly been the most frequent recipients of this award. The 20th Hafez Awards were held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Background Ali Moallem, Picture World founder and previous editor, established the awards in mid-'90s when Iranian cinema was under heavy governmental dominance. Picture World
''Picture World'' is an Iranian film magazine published monthly by Donyaye Tassvir Publication in Tehran, Iran. It was founded in 1992 by Ali Moallem. From the first issue in February 1993 until issue No. 272 in March 2017, the magazine was edited by Ali Moallem. After his death in March, it is published by his son, Omid Moallem. In March 2008 ''Picture World'' was temporarily closed by the Press Monitoring Committee of Iran. The magazine organizes the Hafez Awards. Omid Moallem
Omid (, meaning "Hope") was Iran's first domestically made satellite. Omid was a data-processing satellite for research and telecommunications; Iran's state television reported that it was successfully launched on 2 February 2009. After being launched by an Iranian-made carrier rocket, Safir 1, the satellite was placed into a low Earth orbit. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad supervised the launch, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution; NASA verified the launch's success the following day. Its Satellite Catalog Number or USSPACECOM object number is 33506. Ahmadinejad said the satellite was launched to spread "monotheism, peace and justice" in the world. Mehran Modiri (; born 7 April 1967) is an Iranian peoples, Iranian director, actor, comedian, producer, screenwriter, host and singer. Career His various series, which have been broadcast through IRIB have set records in terms of viewership (an estimated 95% viewership when he is on-air), as well as making him a popular personality among the masses. His artistic career began in his teenage years acting in local plays. Ali ibn Abi Talib (; ) was the fourth Rashidun caliph who ruled from until his assassination in 661, as well as the first Shia Imam. He was the cousin and son-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Abbas Kiarostami ( ; 22 June 1940 – 4 July 2016) was an Iranian film director, screenwriter, poet, photographer, and film producer.
