Haa, Bhutan
Ha, also known as Haa or Has, is a Thromde or town, and the seat of Haa District in Bhutan. Ha is situated in Haa Valley in the west of Bhutan bordering Sikkim. The major economic activity is rice production, yak herding and trade with neighbouring China. Ha accommodates The Indian Military Training Team (also known as IMTRAT). IMTRAT is responsible for the training of the personnel of the Royal Bhutan Army (RBA) and the Royal Bodyguard of Bhutan (RBG). It is the oldest training team sent outside India to a friendly-foreign nation. The place has a religious significance as Lhakhang Karpo and other monasteries are situated there. Flag Of Bhutan
The national flag of Bhutan (Dzongkha: ) is one of the national symbols of Bhutan. The flag features the Druk, a dragon from Bhutanese mythology. This alludes to the country's name in , meaning 'The Thunder Dragon Kingdom', as well as the Drukpa Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism—the dominant religion of Bhutan. The basic design of the flag by Mayeum Choying Wangmo Dorji, Mayum Choying Wangmo Dorji dates to 1947. A version was displayed in 1949 at the signing of the Bhutan–India relations, Indo-Bhutan Treaty. Rice Production In Bhutan
Rice production in Bhutan plays an important role in food supply in Bhutan. It is cultivated largely for domestic consumption. In 2001, it was reported as little as 1% of rice grown in Bhutan as being marketed, but a farmers survey indicated that around 15% is indeed marketed. In a country where 79% of the population is engaged in agriculture, in 2006 the production of rice in Bhutan was 74,720 metric tons, with some under cultivation. This increased dramatically from 44,000 tons in 2000. Rice production in Bhutan increased by 58 percent between 1989 and 1997 according to an assessment of the rice research programme in Bhutan. The most important growing areas are Samtse which has the highest rice growing area in Bhutan with 2,889 hectares, followed by Sarpang with 2,839 and Punakha with 1,971 hectares. The Centre for Bhutan Studies and GNH Research (formerly The Centre for Bhutan Studies) is a research institute located in Thimphu, Bhutan, established in 1999 with the purpose of promoting research and scholarship in Bhutan. Lhakhang Karpo
Lhakhang are religious structures (temples) found throughout the Himalayas (Nepal, Bhutan) that house sacred objects, and in which religious activities take place. Lhakhang means "the house of gods": enlightened beings such as the Buddha, his followers, and other deities. With over two thousand lhakhangs (temples) and goenpa (monasteries) in Bhutan, they can be found in almost every village and on almost every mountain top in the country.
