HK MŠK Indian Žiar nad Hronom is an ice hockey team in Žiar nad Hronom, Slovakia. They play in the Slovak 1. Liga, the third level of ice hockey in Slovakia. History The beginnings of ice hockey in Žiar nad Hronom date back to 1952–53, when the enthusiasm of some young people for this sport gave rise to the establishment of a hockey team. The formed men's team competed within the district and the region. The whole organizational work was based on several volunteer officials and the players themselves, who prepared the ice and lighting themselves. Initially, it was played on the old playground by the stream, later in the premises of the I. ZDŠ, then in the park on the site of the current tennis courts and finally on the site of the current winter stadium. Žiar nad Hronom (slang: Žiar, , ; until 1920 ''Svätý Kríž'' and until 1955 ''Svätý Kríž nad Hronom'') is a city in Banská Bystrica Region, Slovakia. Name development The name of the settlement has gone through multiple developments. Prior to 1237, the settlement was known as a ''place with a toll station''. In 1237, first name of the settlement emerges, as a combination of Latin and Hungarian language, Hungarian, with the town called ''Cristur'' (later ''Kerestúr''), which translates to ''The Cross of the Lord''. Back then, the settlement was split between the dominions of the Šášov castle and the Benedictine Abbey of Hronský Beňadik. The TIPOS Slovenská hokejová liga (TIPOS Slovak Hockey League) is a professional ice hockey league comprising twelve teams in Slovakia. It is the second highest ice hockey league in Slovakia. Game Every regular season game has three 20-minute periods, with a maximum intermission of 18 minutes between periods. If the game is tied after the 60-minute regulation, a five-minute three-on-three sudden death overtime period is played. Marek Uram
Marek Uram (born September 8, 1974) is a Slovak ice hockey player, currently playing for MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš. Uram started his hockey career in his hometown Liptovský Mikuláš, where he played for the local club HK 32. In the 1999/00 season he got traded to the Czech Extraliga, he ended up in the team HC Znojmo along fellow Slovak center Peter Pucher. During his career in Znojmo he was of the team's best scorers. Jozef Stümpel (born 20 July 1972) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey centre. He played in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, and Florida Panthers between 1992 and 2008. Internationally Stümpel played for the Slovak national team at several tournaments, including the 2002, 2006, and 2010 Winter Olympics, and eight World Championships, winning a gold in 2002.
