HDR10
HDR10 Media Profile, more commonly known as 'HDR10'', is an open high-dynamic-range video (HDR) standard announced on 27 August 2015, by the Consumer Electronics Association. It is the most widespread HDR format. HDR10 is not Backward compatibility, backward compatible with Standard-dynamic-range video, SDR. It includes HDR static metadata but not HDR dynamic metadata, dynamic metadata. PQ10 refers to an HDR10 format which does not include any metadata. Technical details HDR10 is defined as: * EOTF: SMPTE ST 2084 (Perceptual quantization, PQ) * Bit depth: 10 bit * Color primaries: Rec. 2020, ITU-R BT.2020 (identical to Rec. 2100, BT.2100 primaries) * Static metadata: SMPTE ST 2086 (mastering display color volume), MaxFALL (maximum frame-average light level), and MaxCLL (maximum content light level) * Color sub-sampling: 4:2:0 (for compressed video sources) PQ10 refers to an HDR format that uses PQ, 10-bit and Rec. 2100 color primaries without having any metadata. HDR10 is t ...

HDR10+
HDR10+ is a High-dynamic-range video, high dynamic range (HDR) video technology that adds HDR dynamic metadata, dynamic metadata to HDR10 source files. The dynamic metadata are used to adjust and optimize each frame of the HDR video to the consumer display's capabilities in a way based on the content creator's intentions. HDR10+ is an alternative to Dolby Vision, which also uses dynamic metadata. HDR10+ is the default variant of dynamic metadata as part of the HDMI#Version 2.1, HDMI 2.1 standard. HDR10+ Adaptive is an update designed to optimize HDR10+ content according to the Available light, ambient light. HDR10+ Gaming is an HDR standard optimized for gaming, providing accurate HDR gaming images with low latency, variable refresh rate (VRR) and high frame rate. Description HDR10+, also known as HDR10 Plus, was announced on 20 April 2017, by Samsung and Amazon Video. HDR10+ updates HDR10 by adding dynamic metadata that can be used to more accurately adjust brightness levels up ...

High-dynamic-range Television
High-dynamic-range television (HDR-TV) is a technology that uses high dynamic range (HDR) to improve the quality of display signals. It is contrasted with the retroactively-named standard dynamic range (SDR). HDR changes the way the luminance and colors of videos and images are represented in the signal and allows brighter and more detailed highlight representation, darker and more detailed shadows, and more intense colors. HDR allows compatible displays to receive a higher-quality image source. It does not improve a display's intrinsic properties (brightness, contrast, and color capabilities). Not all HDR displays have the same capabilities, and HDR content will look different depending on the display used, and the standards specify the required conversion depending on display capabilities. HDR-TV is a part of HDR imaging, an end-to-end process of increasing the dynamic range of images and videos from their capture and creation to their storage, distribution and display. Often, ...

Apple TV
Apple TV is a digital media player and a microconsole developed and marketed by Apple. It is a small piece of networking hardware that sends received media data such as video and audio to a TV or external display. Its media services include streaming media, TV Everywhere–based services, local media sources, sports journalism and broadcasts. Second-generation and later models function only when connected via HDMI to an enhanced-definition or high-definition widescreen television. Since the fourth-generation model, Apple TV runs tvOS with multiple pre-installed apps. In November 2019, Apple released Apple TV+ and the Apple TV app. Apple TV lacks integrated controls and can only be controlled remotely, through a Siri Remote, iPhone or iPad, Apple Remote, or third-party infrared remotes complying with the fourth generation Consumer Electronics Control standard. Background Before the Apple TV, Apple made a number of attempts to create TV-based devices. In 1993, ...

Dolby Vision
Dolby Vision is a set of technologies developed by Dolby Laboratories for high dynamic range (HDR) video. It covers content creation, distribution, and playback. It includes dynamic metadata that define the aspect ratio and adjust the picture based on a display's capabilities on a per-shot or even per-frame basis, optimizing the presentation. Dolby Vision was introduced in 2014, making it the first available HDR format. HDR10+ is a competitor HDR format that also uses dynamic metadata. Dolby Vision IQ is an update designed to optimize Dolby Vision content according to the ambient light. Dolby Cinema also uses Dolby Vision in conjunction with Dolby Atmos sound systems, though because of the use of 2.6 gamma and thus 48 nits in SDR cinemas, the 108 nits used in Dolby Cinema is already HDR. Description Dolby Vision allows for a maximum resolution of 8K, up to 12-bit color depth, and maximum peak brightness of 10,000 nits. However, according to the Dolby Vision white pap ...

High-dynamic-range Video
High dynamic range (HDR), also known as wide dynamic range, extended dynamic range, or expanded dynamic range, is a signal with a higher dynamic range than usual. The term is often used in discussing the dynamic ranges of images, videos, audio or radio. It may also apply to the means of recording, processing, and reproducing such signals including analog signal, analog and Digital signal (signal processing), digitized signals. Imaging In this context, the term ''high dynamic range'' means there is a large amount of variation in light levels within a scene or an image. The ''dynamic range'' refers to the range of luminosity between the brightest area and the darkest area of that scene or image. (HDRI) refers to the set of imaging technologies and techniques that allow the dynamic range of images or videos to be increased. It covers the acquisition, creation, storage, distribution and display of images and videos. Modern films have often been shot with cameras featuring a highe ...

PlayStation 4
The PlayStation 4 (PS4) is a home video game console developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Announced as the successor to the PlayStation 3 in February 2013, it was launched on November 15, 2013, in North America, November 29, 2013, in Europe, South America, and Australia, and on February 22, 2014, in Japan. A Eighth generation of video game consoles, console of the eighth generation, it competes with Microsoft Gaming, Microsoft's Xbox One and Nintendo's Wii U and Nintendo Switch, Switch. Moving away from the more complex Cell (microprocessor), Cell microarchitecture of its predecessor, the console features an AMD APU, APU from AMD built upon the x86-64 architecture, which can theoretically peak at 1.84 teraflops; AMD stated that it was the "most powerful" APU it had developed to date. The PlayStation 4 places an increased emphasis on social interaction and integration with other devices and services, including the ability to play games off-console on PlayStation Vita an ...

Hybrid Log–gamma
The hybrid log–gamma (HLG) transfer function is a transfer function jointly developed by the BBC and NHK for high dynamic range (HDR) display. It is backward compatible with the transfer function of SDR (the gamma curve). It was approved as ARIB STD-B67 by the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB). It is also defined in ATSC 3.0, Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) UHD-1 Phase 2, and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Rec. 2100. HLG is an HDR format that uses the HLG transfer function, BT.2020 color primaries and a bitdepth of 10-bit. HLG was designed to be backward compatible with SDR UHDTV. However, HLG is not intended to be fully backward compatible with traditional SDR displays that cannot interpret BT.2020 colorimetry. Both HLG transfer function and the HLG format are royalty-free. The backward compatibility allows them to be used with existing transmission standards when the receiver is compatible with the BT.2020 colour container, reducing ...
