Génération Taragalte
Génération Taragalte is a musical group from Morocco, formed in 2012, playing electric rock and blues. The group's five founding members all hail from M’hamid El Ghizlane (in Zagora Province), a village whose main industry is tourism. The idea of making music in their own way came to them after they attended a concert by the Tuareg group Tinariwen in 2009, at the Festival Taragalte M'Hamid El Ghizlane, also known as Lamhamid Ghozlane, (in Berber : ⵜⴰⵔⴰⴳⴰⵍⵜ Taragalt, in Arabic: محاميد الغزلان for "plain of gazelles") is a small oasis town in Zagora Province, Drâa-Tafilalet, Morocco, with abo ..., which is held annually in M'Hamid El Ghizlane. M’hamid El Ghizlane
M'Hamid El Ghizlane, also known as Lamhamid Ghozlane, (in Berber : ⵜⴰⵔⴰⴳⴰⵍⵜ Taragalt, in Arabic: محاميد الغزلان for "plain of gazelles") is a small oasis town in Zagora Province, Drâa-Tafilalet, Morocco, with about 7500 inhabitants. Location M'Hamid lies at an altitude of about 500 meters above sea level and about 24 kilometers from the Algerian border at the edge of the Sahara. M'Hamid can be reached at the end of National Route 9 from Ouarzazate (260 km) via Zagora (approx. 97 km). Mhamid lies on the Wadi Draa, which rarely contains water. History Little is known about the early history of the place because of the lack of written records. The spacious palm oases, however, make an early settlement support (about 3000 BC) likely. Tuareg People
The Tuareg people (; also spelled Twareg or Touareg; endonym: ''Imuhaɣ/Imušaɣ/Imašeɣăn/Imajeɣăn'') are a large Berber ethnic group that principally inhabit the Sahara in a vast area stretching from far southwestern Libya to southern Algeria, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso. Traditionally nomadic pastoralists, small groups of Tuareg are also found in northern Nigeria. Tinariwen
Tinariwen ( Tamasheq: , with vowels , pronounced ''tinariwen'' "deserts", plural of ''ténéré'' "desert") is a collective of Tuareg musicians from the Sahara Desert region of northern Mali. Considered a pioneer of desert blues, the group's guitar-driven style combines traditional Tuareg and African music with Western rock music. They have released eight albums since their formation and have toured internationally. The group was founded by Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, along with Alhassane Ag Touhami and brothers Inteyeden Ag Ablil and Liya Ag Ablil (aka "Diarra"). Atlas Electronic is a Moroccan-Dutch organization that organizes an annual music festival in Marrakesh. Its members operate from Morocco and the Netherlands, aiming to support various organizations and their projects in Morocco; according to ''The Guardian'', it focuses on "underground music and cross-cultural collaborations". It was founded by Karim Mrabti, who grew up in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Festival The festival is held annually since 2016, in an ecolodge, the Villa Janna outside of Marrakesh; organizer Mrabti found the place via AirBnB.
