Gym Class Heroes
Gym Class Heroes was an American rap rock band from Geneva, New York. The group formed in 1997 when Travie McCoy met drummer Matt McGinley during their high school gym class. The band's music displays a wide variety of influences, including hip hop, rock, funk, and reggae. After the addition of guitarist Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo and bassist Eric Roberts in 2003, the group was signed to Fueled by Ramen and Decaydance Records (Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz's independent record label), on which they released their debut album, ''The Papercut Chronicles''. The group gained a strong fanbase while promoting the album, appearing at festivals such as The Bamboozle and Vans Warped Tour. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, " Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Matthew Ryan "Matt" McGinley (born February 24, 1983) is the co-founder and former drummer of Gym Class Heroes and a contributing music producer to the nationally syndicated radio program ''This American Life''. Career Matt McGinley is the drummer and co-founder of the band Gym Class Heroes (Atlantic Records). Independent of the band, he has toured and performed with a range of other artists including Ryn Weaver, Wafia, and Ben Abraham. Lazarus (Travie McCoy Album)
''Lazarus'' is the debut studio album by American rapper Travie McCoy released on June 8, 2010. McCoy announced his plans to pursue a solo career in early 2010, although he insisted that Gym Class Heroes had not broken up. After creating demos of melancholy and low-tempo songs, McCoy decided to abandon his early material and start over, as he claimed the songs were "too personal". He began to write more uptempo "party anthems" with lyrical themes of overcoming grief. Musically, McCoy draws from various influences on the record, including hip hop, reggae, and rock. Upon its release, ''Lazarus'' debuted at number 25 on the US ''Billboard'' 200 chart with sales of 15,000 copies. The Quilt
''The Quilt'' is the fourth studio album by the American rap rock band Gym Class Heroes, released by Fueled By Ramen/Decaydance on September 9, 2008. Half of the album's 14 tracks are produced by Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, Cool & Dre, Tricky Stewart. Allstar produced the rest. Featured artists on the record include Busta Rhymes, Estelle, The-Dream and Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates. Additional background vocals on the album are provided by Patrick Stump, Patty Crash, Andre Leon and Lyndsey Ray. Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy is also credited with working on a track. Clothes Off!!
"Clothes Off!!" is the fifth single from Gym Class Heroes' third album, '' As Cruel as School Children''. It features vocalist Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. It was released in June 2007, and peaked at number 46 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Outside of the United States, "Clothes Off" peaked within the top ten of the charts in Finland, the Republic of Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The original hook for the song is from Jermaine Stewart's 1986 single "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off". A remix to the song was released in November 2008 featuring rappers Reef the Lost Cauze and Ghostface Killah of Wu-Tang Clan. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. The song relies heavily on the music and chorus from Supertramp's hit song "Breakfast in America" written by Roger Hodgson. Vans Warped Tour
The Warped Tour was a traveling rock tour that toured the United States plus three or four stops in Canada annually each summer from 1995 until 2019. It was the largest traveling music festival in the United States and the longest-running touring music festival to date in North America. Following the first Warped Tour, the skateboard shoe manufacturer Vans became the tour’s main sponsor, when it then became known as the Vans Warped Tour. Vans toured Australia in 1998-2002 and again in 2013. Although Vans continued as main sponsor and lent its name to the festival, other sponsors also participated, with stages or other aspects of the festival being named after them on occasion. The Bamboozle
The Bamboozle is an annual three-day music festival which was held in New Jersey from 2003 to 2012, and is scheduled for a 2023 revival by its founder. Every year, new bands competed for spots during the two days. The event evolved out of the Skate and Surf Festival. The 2012 event was the final one of its original run, as founder John D'Esposito subsequently left Bamboozle due to creative differences with organizing partners.
