Guy-Patrice Lumumba
Guy-Patrice Lumumba, also known as Patrice Lumumba Guy, is the son of murdered Congolese Prime Minister and Pan-Africanist Patrice Émery Lumumba. His arrest in December 2005 was mentioned in the British House of Commons. He ran independently for President of Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2006, but received only about 0.42% of the vote. The World Socialist Website indicates he signed a complaint regarding the elections, claiming voter bribery and excess ballot sheets. Patrice Lumumba
Patrice Émery Lumumba (; 2 July 1925 – 17 January 1961) was a Congolese politician and independence leader who served as the first prime minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then known as the Republic of the Congo) from June until September 1960. A member of the Congolese National Movement (MNC), he led the MNC from 1958 until his execution in January 1961. Ideologically an African nationalist and pan-Africanist, he played a significant role in the transformation of the Congo from a colony of Belgium into an independent republic. Shortly after Congolese independence in 1960, a mutiny broke out in the army, marking the beginning of the Congo Crisis. Lumumba appealed to the United States and the United Nations for help to suppress the Belgian-supported Katangan secessionists led by Moïse Tshombe. Gerard Soete (29 January 1920 – 9 June 2000) was a Belgian gendarme, colonial, author, and teacher. One year before his death, in 1999, it became known that he was involved in the wake of the assassination of Patrice Lumumba by disposing of his body. Career in Congo After studying German languages, Soete moved to the Belgian Congo in 1946 and became a member of the police force in Élisabethville, capital of Katanga. He ended his career in the force as the inspector-general of the police in Katanga. On 30 June 1960, the Belgian Congo became the independent Congo.
