Guam Highway 4
Guam Highway 4 (GH-4) is one of the primary automobile highways in the United States territory of Guam. Route description GH-4 is the major highway along the southeastern coast of Guam, comprising the majority of a loop around the southern half of the island (the rest is taken up by GH-1, GH-2A, and GH-2). The highway begins at the south end of GH-2 at the Magellan Monument in Umatac (the road officially changes designations at the crossing of the Umatac River). The road then begins its counterclockwise journey around the southern half of the island, first going south to the southernmost tip of the island at Merizo and then proceeding along the coast, first eastward to Inarajan and then north to Talofofo and Yona, where it meets GH-17 (Cross Island Road). Talofofo, Guam
Talo'fo'fo, formerly Talofofo, is a village located in the southern part of the United States territory of Guam, on the east coast. The village center is located in the hills above the coast, while the smaller coastal community below the cliff is known as Ipan. The village contains two golf courses. Other tourist attractions include Jeff's Pirate's Cove Restaurant and Museum, Talofofo Caves, Talofofo Falls Resort Park, Ipan Beach Resort and a Talofofo River boat cruise to an ancient Chamorro village. Yona, Guam
Yona ( ch, Yoʼña ) is a village in the United States territory of Guam. History Yona was historically a farming community but today is mostly residential. During World War II, the Japanese forced the indigenous Chamorros to march from camps in northern Guam to prison camps in Yona shortly before the Americans liberated the island. Japanese tanks in the area near the Segua River serve as reminders of the war. Today, the LeoPalace Resort is located in the Manenggon Hills. The LeoPalace Resort is also used for association football. Geography The village of Yona has an area of and is located on the eastern side of Guam between Pago River and Togcha River. Chalan Pago-Ordot, Guam
Chalan Pago-Ordot ( ch, Chålan Pågu-Otdot) is a village in the United States territory of Guam, containing the communities of Chalan Pago and Ordot. It is located in the eastern-central part of the island and is part of the Kattan (Eastern) District. The village's population has increased slightly since the island's 2010 census. Etymology ''Pågu'' is the Chamorro word for the wild tree ''Hibiscus tiliaceus'', while "''chålan''"' means "road". The name ''Chalan Pago'' is named after the path from Hagåtña to the Spanish village at Pago Bay. Ordot comes from the word ''otdot'', or ant. In World War II, the Japanese used the area as a supply depot during their occupation of the island. Hagåtña, Guam
Hagåtña (; ; formerly in English: Agana , in Spanish: Agaña) is the capital village of the United States territory of Guam. From the 18th through mid-20th century, it was Guam's population center, but today it is the second smallest of the island's 19 villages in both area and population. However, it remains one of the island's major commercial districts in addition to being the seat of government. Etymology "Hagåt" (also romanized as ''haga, with a glottal stop instead of a syllable-final "t") means "blood" in the Chamorro language. The suffix "-ña" can be translated as either the possessive pronouns ''his'', ''hers'' or ''its'' in English (cognate to ''-nya'' in Malay), or a signification of greater comparative degree, similar to some uses of the English suffix "-er". Guam Highway 1
Guam Highway 1 (GH-1), also known as Marine Corps Drive, is one of the primary automobile routes in the United States territory of Guam. It runs in a southwest-to-northeast direction, from the main gate of Naval Base Guam in the southwestern village of Santa Rita in a northeasterly direction to the main gate of Andersen Air Force Base in the village of Yigo. It passes through Guam's capital, Hagåtña, as well as intersecting other territorial highways. The highway runs through tropical forest, urbanized commercial areas, and residential neighborhoods. The US military upgraded and extended the road starting in 1941. Construction ceased with the Japanese invasion in December 1941 and resumed after the Second Battle of Guam in 1944. Merizo, Guam
Malesso' (formerly Merizo) is the southernmost village in the United States territory of Guam. Cocos Island (Guam), Cocos Island (Chamorro: Islan Dåno) is a part of the municipality. The village's population has decreased since the island's 2010 census. Malesso' is the closest populated place in the United States to the equator. History During the first Spain, Spanish missionary efforts on Guam, Malesso' was the site of resistance encouraged by Choco, a Chinese resident of the village.
