Gruffudd or Gruffydd ( or , in either case) is a Welsh language, Welsh name, originating in Old Welsh as a given name and today used as both a given and surname. It is the origin of the Anglicisation, Anglicised name ''Griffith (name), Griffith[s]'', and was historically sometimes treated as interchangeable with the etymologically unrelated Germanic languages, Germanic name ''Galfrid'' (Latinisation of names, Latinised as ''Galfridus''). Welsh ( or ) is a Celtic language family, Celtic language of the Brittonic languages, Brittonic subgroup that is native to the Welsh people. Welsh is spoken natively in Wales, by some in England, and in Y Wladfa (the Welsh colony in Chubut Province, Argentina).
