Great Bridge High School
Great Bridge High School is a public secondary school in Chesapeake, Virginia, United States. It is part of Chesapeake City Public Schools. History Great Bridge opened in 1907, holding students from 1st through 12th grade. Another larger building opened in 1924, which also housed students from 1st through 11th grade. In 1954, Great Bridge moved to another new larger building which accommodated students in 6th through 12th grade. This building has now become the site of Great Bridge Middle School. In 1983, the current site of Great Bridge opened, which accommodates students in the 9th through 12th grade. Athletics The mascot is a wildcat and the sports teams currently play in the AAA Southeastern District of the AAA Eastern Region. The women's field hockey team won the state title in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Chesapeake is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. Lawrence Johnson (born May 7, 1974) is an American pole vaulter, born in Norfolk, Virginia. He earned the nickname "LoJo" at the University of Tennessee where he won four NCAA titles in the pole vault. LoJo began pole vaulting in 1989 and since has/holds records on all stages and led the charge to return the US to the international medal podium with two Olympic appearances, including a silver medal performance in Athletics at the 2000 Summer Olympics, 2000 Olympic games Sydney. Dave Elkins (born Dave Gimenez) is an American musician from Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is best known as the co-founder and lead singer of the band Mae. His other notable musical projects include Sky's The Limit and Schematic. Career Sky's the Limit In 2001, Elkins was the lead singer for the band Sky's the Limit. The band's only album, self-titled, was originally released independently, then later released again through Spartan Records to allow for greater distribution. Elkins went on to re-record several Sky's the Limit songs with Mae. Mark Giles Davis (born June 8, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player. He is a 6'6" (1.98 m) and 195 lb (88 kg). He was a small forward and he attended Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he was born. He played collegiately at Old Dominion University. Davis was selected with the 9th pick of the fourth round of the 1985 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. In his only NBA season ( 1988–89) in which he spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks (31 games) and Phoenix Suns (2 games), he averaged 3.8 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. He won the Spanish Cup in 1990, playing for CB Zaragoza. He also played in 1991 European Cup Winner's Cup final.
