Governors Of The Cayman Islands
The Governor of the Cayman Islands is the representative of the British monarch in the United Kingdom's overseas territory of the Cayman Islands. The Governor, a civil servant who has in modern times typically been a British subject normally resident in the United Kingdom, is appointed by the monarch from the staff of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on the advice of the British government. The role of the Governor is to act as the de facto head of state, and is responsible for appointing the Premier, who is the leader of the party with a majority of seats in the Legislature. The Governorship is held by Martyn Roper since October 2018. The Governor has his own flag, the Union Flag defaced with the territory's coat of arms. Martyn Roper
Martyn Keith Roper (born 8 June 1965) is a British diplomat and civil servant who has been Governor of the Cayman Islands since 29 October 2018. Roper was the List of ambassadors of the United Kingdom to Algeria, British Ambassador to Algeria from 2010 to 2014. He was appointed Order of the British Empire, OBE in 2013 "for services to UK interests in Algeria, particularly the UK response to the In Amenas hostage crisis". Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman
Seven Mile Beach (SMB) is a long crescent of coral-sand beach on the western end of Grand Cayman island. Seven Mile Beach is known for its beauty, recently receiving the honor of "The Caribbean's Best Beach" from ''Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine''. It is public property (Because of the rule from the high tide down is public ) and one is able to walk the full length of the beach, regardless of where you are staying. The Seven Mile Beach is the most popular and most developed area of Grand Cayman. It is home to the majority of the island's luxury resorts and hotels. Despite the name, a generous measurement puts the actual length at just a bit over long. A realistic length for the uninterrupted sandy beach is about 6 miles. The beach falls victim to annual erosion, which has reduced its size in some areas, and may have reduced its length at the ends. Thomas Russell (colonial Administrator)
Thomas Russell, CMG, CBE (27 May 1920 – 5 July 2016) was a British colonial administrator. He was Governor of the Cayman Islands from 1974 to 1981. The eldest son of Colonel Thomas Russell OBE MC, Russell was educated at Gattonside School, Melrose Grammar School and Hawick High School, before attending the University of St Andrews, where he graduated MA. Enlisting in the British Army in 1940, he fought in North Africa and Italy, being badly wounded and taken prisoner by the Germans in 1944. Liberated in 1945, Russell left the Army the following year and was appointed to the Colonial Administrative Service, taking a course in colonial administration at Peterhouse, Cambridge. After postings in Fiji and the Solomon Islands, where he was Chief Secretary, he was appointed Governor of the Cayman Islands in 1970, serving until 1981; his term was extended three times, making him the longest-serving Governor of the territory. Jack Rose, (18 January 1917 – 10 October 2009) was a British fighter pilot during the Battle of Britain who later in the Second World War pioneered the use of rockets fired from fighter-bombers. One of very few pilots to survive having been operational on both the first and last days of the war, he later became a distinguished administrator in the British Colonial Office.
