Godiego
are a Japanese rock band, consisting of keyboardist and composer Mickie Yoshino, vocalist Yukihide Takekawa, guitarist Takami Asano and Yoji Yoshizawa, bassist Steve Fox, and drummer Tommy Snyder. Over their 40-year career (with hiatuses), Godiego released 27 singles and 55 albums in Japan, with lyrics written variably in English by longtime collaborator lyricist Yoko Narahashi. They are perhaps best known for performing the song " Monkey Magic" for the 1978 television series ''Saiyūki'' which was brought over to the United Kingdom as ''Monkey''. This led to several releases through BBC Records, including "Monkey Magic", "Gandhara", and the LP ''Monkey'' and several of their records charted in the UK. Their theme from ''The Water Margin'' was their sole UK Top 40 hit. Godiego are also known for performing the theme song "THE GALAXY EXPRESS 999" for the ''Galaxy Express 999'' film and the soundtrack for the 1977 film ''House''. Mickie Yoshino
Mickie Yoshino (born 13 December 1951) is a Japanese keyboard player, composer, producer, and arranger. Yoshino is known for leading the rock band Godiego. In 2005, he won a Japan Academy Prize for his music. Yoshino's compositions were used in the film ''Swing Girls'' ( Altamira Pictures). Yoshino still produces music with groups such as Godiego and EnTRANS. Biography Early years and The Golden Cups Yoshino's musical career began when he was a junior in high school, playing in night clubs and the U.S. military base in Yokohama, Japan. In 1967, at the age of 16, he became a member of The Golden Cups, a pioneering Japanese blues band that released several popular hits. Monkey (TV Series)
, also known by its English title ''Monkey'', is a Japanese television drama based on the 16th-century Chinese novel ''Journey to the West'' by Wu Cheng'en. Filmed in Northwest China and Inner Mongolia, the show was produced by Nippon TV and and broadcast from 1978 to 1980 on Nippon TV. Hausu
is a 1977 Japanese Experimental film, experimental comedy horror film directed and produced by Nobuhiko Obayashi. It is about a schoolgirl traveling with her six friends to her ailing aunt's country home, where they come face to face with supernatural events as the girls are, one by one, devoured by the home. It stars mostly Amateur theatre, amateur actors, with only Kimiko Ikegami and Yōko Minamida having any notable previous acting experience. The musical score was performed by the rock band Godiego. Toho, Toho Studios approached Obayashi with the suggestion to make a film like ''Jaws (film), Jaws''. Influenced by ideas from his daughter Chigumi, he developed ideas for a script by Chiho Katsura. is a song by Japanese rock band Godiego, serving as their 7th single. Referring to the historical Buddhist land on the Indian subcontinent, "Gandhara" was used as the ending theme song for the first season of the television drama , known in the English speaking world as ''Monkey''. "Gandhara" was originally released in Japan on October 1, 1978, but it was later released in the United Kingdom in 1980 to coincide with the British broadcast of ''Monkey''. "Gandhara" reached number 2 on both the Oricon and '' The Best Ten'' charts in Japan, while the British release reached 56 on the UK Singles Chart. Godiego recorded the song in both Japanese and English, with a hybrid Japanese & English version being included on the releases in the UK. Galaxy Express 999
is a Japanese manga series. It is written and illustrated by Leiji Matsumoto, later adapted into a number of anime films and television series. It is set in a spacefaring, high-tech future in which humans have learned how to transfer their minds and emotions with perfect fidelity into mechanical bodies, thus achieving practical immortality.
