Glenorchy Football Club
The Glenorchy District Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently playing in the Tasmanian State League and the Southern Football League in Tasmania, Australia. History The club is nicknamed the Magpies after its black and white playing strip, and was originally known as New Town Football Club (wearing a green and white strip) when it started out as a member of the Tasmanian Football League in 1919. New Town changed its name to Glenorchy in 1957 after absorbing the already established club Glenorchy Rovers and relocated its headquarters to KGV Oval at Glenorchy in Hobart's northern suburbs in the same year, playing its first match at the venue on 4 May 1957 against Hobart. Aaron Cornelius
Aaron Cornelius (born 29 May 1990) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was selected with the Brisbane Lions' fourth selection (pick 57 overall) in the 2008 National Draft. Cornelius was given the number 44 jumper, previously worn by Brisbane Bears and Brisbane Lions champion Nigel Lappin. Cornelius was delisted by Brisbane at the end of the 2013 season. Colin Tully
Colin Alexander Tully (20 May 1945 – 25 September 2020) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the VFL during the late 1960s. Although small in stature, Tully was a long kick of the ball. For example, he goaled with an estimated 70-75 yards drop kick from the centre of the MCG, against Richmond in 1966. He played his early football at Collingwood as a centreman before developing into a defender and was a member of two losing VFL Grand Finals. He was a Victorian interstate representative in 1967. Tully continued his playing career in the WANFL with Claremont and represented the state at the 1972 Perth Carnival. Half-forward Line
In the sport of Australian rules football, the half-forward line refers to a position on the field of play. 3 players are positioned in the half-forward line, a left and right half-forward flank player, as well as a centre half-forward. A half-forward flanker can be a forward such as John Barker, or it can be a midfielder such as Andrew McLeod, or Daniel Kerr. The centre half-forward is probably the most athletic player on the ground. He is required to kick goals, take strong marks, and do a lot of running. Neil Conlan (7 August 1936 – 22 July 1978) was an Australian football player from Tasmania. Conlan played as a forward. The Centre line refers to a set of positions on an Australian rules football field. It consists of 3 players, two on the wings (left and right), and one in the centre. Wing The two wingmen control the open spaces in the middle of the ground.Pascoe, 1995, p. 30 They can vary in size, depending on team balance or opposition match-ups, but in general they need to be highly skilled, especially in kicking. In the sport of Australian rules football, each of the eighteen players in a team is assigned to a particular named position on the field of play. These positions describe both the player's main role and by implication their location on the ground. As the game has evolved, tactics and team formations have changed, and the names of the positions and the duties involved have evolved too. Ben Beams (born 17 August 1978) is an Australian rules football player who played for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) between 1999 and 2001 and the Tasmanian Devils Football club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) from 2002 until 2006. John Klug
John Klug (born 28 September 1965) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Klug, from Glenorchy Football Club in Tasmania, was initially recruited by Victorian Football League (VFL) club Richmond but was unable to break into Richmond's league side. Klug then moved to Adelaide to play for Woodville Football Club in the South Australian Football League (SANFL) and was recruited by the Adelaide Crows for the initial squad in 1991. In the Crows' first year Klug played at Centre Half Forward, although slightly built and against much bigger opponents for most of the season Klug performed well and finished eighth in the Crows' Best and Fairest that year. Leigh McConnon
Leigh McConnon (born 9 June 1953) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton and Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A professional sprint racer before coming to Carlton, McConnon had also been a good player at North Hobart and was a member of their 1974 premiership team. McConnon represented Tasmania in the 1975 Knockout Carnival. He made a Preliminary Final in his first season with Carlton but McConnon, a wingman, lost his place in the side the following season and returned to Tasmania. Shayne Stevenson (footballer)
Shayne Stevenson (born 12 June 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy and Hawthorn in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. A long kicking left footer, Stevenson joined the AFL from Tasmanian club Sandy Bay. He was recruited with the 37th pick in the draft and made his debut in the 1991 season. In his three years playing seniors at Fitzroy, Stevenson never once experienced a win. His first season with Hawthorn, who picked him up in the 1994 Pre-Season Draft, was a contrast. He made his way into the team late in the year and participated in the Qualifying Final loss to North Melbourne, contributing 23 disposals and two goals. Paul Hamilton (born 19 June 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Australian Football League (AFL) during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Hamilton was a defender and usually occupied a back pocket for Essendon. After playing in a Preliminary Final in 1989, Hamilton participated in the 1990 AFL Grand Final. He brought up his 100th league game in Essendon's 1991 encounter against Carlton Football Club at Waverley Park.
