Glenis Willmott
Dame Glenis Willmott, ('' née'' Scott; born 4 March 1951) is a retired British Labour Party politician who served as leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party (EPLP) and Member of the European Parliament for the East Midlands. Early life and career Willmott was born in the mining village of Horden, County Durham, but moved to Mansfield with her family at the age of 10. She was educated in Mansfield and at Trent Polytechnic where she obtained an HNC in medical science. She worked as a medical scientist for the National Health Service at King's Mill and Mansfield Hospitals from 1969 to 1990. She was chair of Mansfield Constituency Labour Party and a member of Nottinghamshire County Council for the Leeming and Forest Town division from 1989 to 1993. 1993 United Kingdom Local Elections
Local elections were held in the United Kingdom in 1993. The results showed a decline for the governing Conservative Party with the third placed party, the Liberal Democrats, gaining most seats. The main opposition Labour Party, now led by John Smith following Neil Kinnock's resignation as party leader, gained 111 seats, bringing their number of councillors to 9,213. Their share of the vote was projected to be 39%, their highest since 1990. The governing Conservative Party lost 486 seats and were left with 7,802 councillors. Nottinghamshire County Council is the upper-tier local authority for the non-metropolitan county of Nottinghamshire in England. Mansfield (UK Parliament Constituency)
Mansfield is a constituency created in 1885 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2017 by Ben Bradley of the Conservative Party, who gained the seat at the 2017 general election, from the Labour Party. This is the first time the seat has been represented by a Conservative since its creation in 1885. The seat is centred on Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. King's Mill Hospital
King's Mill Hospital is an acute general district hospital serving the population of north Nottinghamshire and parts of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. It is managed by the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The majority of the hospital buildings are inside Ashfield District Council (town planning) area with some peripheral buildings falling under Mansfield District Council planning controls. History King's Mill was opened as the 30th General Hospital of California, a military hospital, in 1942. The hospital housed 400 injured American personnel as well as German prisoners of war. Part of the site was used to accommodate Mansfield Secondary Technical School, taking students from 1945 housed in the Nissen huts that had been left by the US Army.
