Giuseppe Bertini
Giuseppe Bertini (1825–1898) was an Italian painter, active in his native Milan. Biography He studied at the Brera Academy under Luigi Sabatelli and Giuseppe Bisi, and in 1845 was awarded the ''Gran premio di pittura dell'Accademia di Brera'' on the strength of a picture of the meeting between ''Dante and Fra Ilario''. He also painted the ''Triumphal entry of the allied sovereigns into Milan after the Battle of Magenta'' (after 1859). He also painted frescoes on a vaulted room of the residence of the Puricelli Guerra, representing the great men of the Middle Ages, backgrounded against perspectives of Gothic architecture. Verismo (painting)
The Verismo (meaning "realism", from Italian ''vero'', meaning "true") refers to a 19th-century Italian painting style. This style was practiced most characteristically by the "Macchiaioli" group of painters, who were forerunners of the French Impressionists. In this regard, the Wikipedia article on " American verismo" is germane because it contains a long discussion of an instance of American verismo (Jerry Ross) in American painting. However, there is an extremely rich reservoir of American examples that include techniques for loose brushwork alongside social commentary such as in "The Ashcan School" and the work of John Singer Sargent and the bold city and landscapes of George Bellows. Giuseppe Barbaglia
Giuseppe Barbaglia (1841–1910) was an Italian painter. Biography He was born in Milan. At the age of twenty due to a romantic entanglement, he was forced to leave Milan, and during his travels, he developed gangrene of the leg, requiring amputation. He returned to Milan and trained under Giuseppe Bertini.He attended the Scapigliatura and was considered among the best artists of that circle. Lodovico Pogliaghi
Lodovico Pogliaghi (Milan, 1857 – S. Maria del Monte, Varese, 1950) was an Italian painter, sculptor and decorator. Biography Lodovico Pogliaghi was born to an upper middle class Milanese family. He was enrolled at the Brera Academy at a very young age; and by 1889, he completed his studies. Among his strongest influences there was Giuseppe Bertini, who taught painting. During the 1880s, he obtained important commissions for the artistic decoration of palazzi belonging to the Milan aristocracy. He also executed religious works, and launched on his career as an illustrator of historical subjects for the Treves publishing house in Milan. Pietro Michis (August 12, 1836 – November 24, 1903) was an Italian painter, mostly of genre scenes. Biography He was a resident of Milan, the city of his birth. In 1851 he began studies at the Brera Academy under Giuseppe Bertini. He married the painter Maria Cattaneo; they often worked together on canvases.
