Ghamkol Shariff Masjid
Central Jamia Mosque Ghamkol Sharif is a Sunni mosque in Small Heath area of Birmingham, England. The website Muslims in Britain classifies the Ghamkol Shariff Masjid as Sufi – Bareilvi. Construction began on 15 March 1992, during Ramadan. Each night throughout its construction, a hafiz recited the Quran on the construction site. Building work ended in 1996. It can fit up to 5,000 people at one time. The Masjid is named after a Sufi saint's place of residence, Ghamkol Sharif near Kohat, in northern Pakistan. Sufi saint Zinda Peer Sahib has followers in several countries, especially in the UK. Small Heath, Birmingham
Small Heath is an area in south-east Birmingham, West Midlands, England situated on and around the Coventry Road about from the city centre. History Small Heath, which has been settled and used since Roman times, sits on top of a small hill. The slightly elevated site offers poor agricultural land, lying on a glacial drift of sand, gravel, and clay, resulting in a heathland that provides adequate grazing for livestock. The land, therefore, seems to have developed as a pasture or common land, on which locals could graze their animals. However, the site lies directly on the route between Birmingham and Coventry, and so was probably used by drovers transporting animals to and from the two cities, and the livestock markets within each. The Coventry Road itself was first recorded in 1226, leading from the Digbeth crossing of the River Rea. Birmingham Central Mosque, is a mosque in the Highgate area of Birmingham, England, run by the Birmingham Mosque Trust. The organization, 'Muslims in Britain’ classify the Birmingham Central Mosque as, nonsectarian. The mosque has a capacity of 6,000, including women. The mosque provides a Sharia Council which in 2016 handled 400 requests for divorce. The mosque has 21 listed trustees, and its Chair is Maqbool Ahmed. Its Vice Chairman is Muhammad Sarfraz Madni. History A golden dome was added to the top of the minaret in 1981. In 1986, the mosque sought and was granted permission to call prayer within certain limits.
