The GelreDome () is a football stadium in the city of Arnhem, Netherlands. It is one of the largest and most modern stadiums in the country, built from 1996 to 1998 at a cost equivalent to €75 million, that opened on 25 March 1998. The stadium has been the home of association football club Vitesse Arnhem since 1998. It was one of the stadiums used during Euro 2000 tournament held in the Netherlands and Belgium. Both international and Dutch artists have given concerts in the stadium, including Lady Gaga, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Madonna, Prince, Spice Girls, Justin Bieber, Paul McCartney, Shakira, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, André Rieu, The Rolling Stones, Justin Timberlake and Rihanna. Arnhem
Arnhem ( or ; german: Arnheim; South Guelderish: ''Èrnem'') is a city and municipality situated in the eastern part of the Netherlands about 55 km south east of Utrecht. It is the capital of the province of Gelderland, located on both banks of the rivers Nederrijn and Sint-Jansbeek, which was the source of the city's development. Arnhem had a population of 163.972 on 1 December 2021, which made it one of the larger cities of the Netherlands. Henk Bosveld
Hendrikus ("Henk") Johannes Bosveld (July 10, 1941 – August 6, 1998) was a Dutch football midfielder, who was nicknamed ''Charly'' after Charles Chaplin due to a similar style of walking. Club career Born in Velp, he started playing football at local side VVO and was named best player of Vitesse in the twentieth century. He also played for Sportclub Enschede and Sparta and retired from professional football on June 12, 1979. International career Bosveld made his debut for the Netherlands in an October 1962 friendly match against Belgium. He won his second and final cap in an April 1964 friendly against Austria. UEFA Euro 2000
The 2000 UEFA European Football Championship, also known as Euro 2000, was the 11th UEFA European Championship, a football tournament held every four years and organised by UEFA, the sport's governing body in Europe. The finals tournament was played between 10 June and 2 July 2000, and co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, the first time the tournament had been held in more than one nation. Spain and Austria also bid to host the event. Edward Sturing
Edward Jeroen Sturing (born 13 June 1963) is a Dutch professional football manager and former player. Sturing played as a defender and earned three caps for the Netherlands national team. Career Sturing played for De Graafschap and Vitesse, with whom he won the Eerste Divisie championship in 1989. He was also voted best player of the Eredivisie in the 1989–90 season. After his playing career, Sturing worked at Vitesse as assistant coach and manager. From June 2009 until February 2010, he also served as manager of Volendam. He became assistant at Gençlerbirliği and Kayseri Erciyesspor from 2012 to 2014, before returning to Vitesse, where he was once again an assistant manager. Just Göbel
Dr. Marius Jan "Just" Göbel (November 21, 1891 in Surabaya – March 5, 1984 in Ede) was a Dutch amateur football (soccer) player. Career Göbel who played for Vitesse Arnhem, succeeded Reinier Beeuwkes as the Dutch national goalkeeper in 1911. He was known for being the first Dutch keeper trying to catch the ball rather than stomp it away. He played 18 matches for the Dutch team, being best remembered for his numerous saves during the 2-1 win over England's amateurs and his bronze medal in the football tournament of the 1912 Summer Olympics. Theo Bos (footballer)
Theo Bos (5 October 1965 - 28 February 2013) was a Dutch football player and coach. He played for Vitesse Arnhem from 1983 to 1998. During his career at Vitesse, he amassed a total of 429 matches, a record for the club. Playing career Bos began his career at amateur club Sv Sempre Avanti and played from 1979 to 1983 in the academy of Vitesse. After breaking through in several youth teams Bos made his professional debut on 13 August 1983 in the first team against FC Wageningen, which Vitesse won 3–0. In the 1988–89 season Bos won the Eerste Divisie title. The following season saw further progress; a fourth-place finish in 1989–90 saw Vitesse qualify for the UEFA Cup for the first time in its history. The club also reached the final of the domestic cup. Bos spent his entire career for Vitesse, making a total of 429 appearances in 14 seasons with his club. UEFA Stadium Categories
UEFA stadium categories are categories for association football, football stadiums laid out in UEFA's Stadium Infrastructure Regulations. Using these regulations, stadiums are rated as category one, two, three, or four (renamed from elite) in ascending ranking order. These categories replaced the previous method of ranking stadiums on one to five star scale in 2006. A stadium must be rated as category four in order to host games in the playoffs of the qualifying stage for the UEFA Champions League, or any game in the main competition.
