Geislingen (Steige)
Geislingen an der Steige is surrounded by the heights of the Swabian Alb and embedded in 5 beautiful valleys. It is a town in the Göppingen (district), district of Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. The name relates to its location "on the climb" (''an der steige'') of a trade route over the Swabian Jura mountain range. It is in the southeast of the Stuttgart region about 50 km of Stuttgart and 27 km of Ulm. It is the second largest city in the district of Göppingen. The city is characterized by a grown industry and attractive surroundings of the Swabian Albtrauf adventure region - this creates a positive environment for regionally and internationally oriented companies. Fils Valley Railway
The Fils Valley Railway (german: Filstalbahn, historically ''Filsbahn'' or ''Württembergische Ostbahn''—Württemberg Eastern Railway) designates the Württemberg line from Stuttgart via Göppingen to Ulm. It runs from Plochingen to Geislingen an der Steige through the Fils Valley. History Construction The Fils Valley Railway was built as part of the first railway line in Württemberg connecting the navigable Neckar in Heilbronn via Stuttgart with the navigable Danube at Ulm, with a further connection from Ulm to Lake Constance. The Stuttgart-Esslingen section of the line was built as part of the Central Railway (''Zentralbahn'') between 1844 and 1846. The line was completed between Cannstatt and Esslingen on 22 October 1845 and the Rosenstein Tunnel was completed on 4 July 1846, allowing the first train to run into Stuttgart station on 26 September 1846. Bernhard Ilg
Bernhard Ilg (born in Geislingen an der Steige on February 8, 1956) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). He is Mayor ('' Oberbürgermeister'') of the Große Kreisstadt Heidenheim an der Brenz in Baden-Württemberg's region of Ostwürttemberg. He graduated in Public management (''Diplom-Verwaltungswirt'') in 1980. Thereafter he was district bailiff (''Kreisamtmann'') at the Landratsamt of Biberach where he was in charge of finance and carrying out special tasks until 1986. From 1986 to November 28, 1999, Ilg was Mayor of Salach. He is ''Oberbürgermeister'' of Heidenheim since February 1, 2000, re-elected on November 11, 2007. In 2000, he was elected with a narrow majority; however, in 2007 he received 82.27 percent of votes. Markus Gisdol
Markus Gisdol (born 17 August 1969) is a German football manager and former player. Managerial career Gisdol had coaching stints at Sonnenhof Großaspach, Ulm 1846, and 1899 Hoffenheim II. He was the assistant manager at Schalke 04. On 2 April 2013, Gisdol replaced Marco Kurz at 1899 Hoffenheim. Gisdol's first match as a manager was a 3–0 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf and he went on to save them from relegation, leading to his full appointment as Hoffenheim's head coach. On 16 April 2015 he renewed his contract when he signed a three-year extension. After an unsuccessful start of Hoffenheim's 2015–16 campaign, Gisdol was sacked on 26 October 2015. Andreas Frey (born 5 June 1967 in Geislingen an der Steige, Germany) is a German economical scientist and Rector of the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Applied Science (HfWU) for the period 2013 – 2019. Biography Andreas Frey grew up in Geislingen and took „Abitur“ at the Michelberg-Gymnasium before studying at the University of Wisconsin, USA, and at the University of Ulm, where he was awarded his doctorate (Dr. rer nat.) Karl Allgöwer (born 5 January 1957) is a German former footballer who played as a midfielder. Growing up in Geislingen an der Steige, Allgöwer completed his youth years with SV Altenstadt and SC Geislingen before moving to Stuttgart to score 59 goals for 2. Bundesliga team Stuttgarter Kickers from 1977 to 1980 as striker. Local rival VfB Stuttgart paid Kickers 750,000 Deutsche Mark to team him up with their Bundesliga squad. Just a few matches for them, he got selected for the B-international team of Germany, impressing as a goalscoring midfielder. His immediate progress earned him a call-up from Jupp Derwall for Germany.
