The ''Garde-Meuble de la Couronne'' was, in the organisation of the French royal household under the Ancien Régime, the department of the ''Maison du Roi'' responsible for the order, upkeep, storage and repair of all the furniture, art, and other movable objects in the royal palaces. It oversaw the administration of the Beauvais Manufactory and Gobelins Manufactory. The Maison du Roi (, "King's Household") was the royal household of the King of France. It comprised the military, domestic, and religious entourage of the French royal family during the Ancien Régime and Bourbon Restoration. Organisation The exact composition and duties of its various divisions changed constantly over the Early Modern period. Officers of the Maison du Roi were directly responsible to the ''Grand maître de France'' (Chief Steward). Starting in the 16th century and then from the 17th century on, the Maison du Roi was overseen by a ministry, the ''Département de la Maison du Roi'', directed by a secretary of state, the '' Secrétaire d'État à la Maison du Roi''. The Beauvais Manufactory () is a historic tapestry factory in Beauvais, France. It was the second in importance, after the Gobelins Manufactory, of French tapestry workshops that were established under the general direction of Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the finance minister of Louis XIV of France, Louis XIV. Whereas the royal Gobelins Manufactory executed tapestries for the royal residences and as ambassadorial gifts, the manufacture at Beauvais remained a private enterprise. The Gobelins Manufactory () is a historic tapestry factory in Paris, France. It is located at 42 avenue des Gobelins, near Les Gobelins métro station in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. It was originally established on the site as a medieval dyeing business by the family Gobelin. Overview It is best known as a royal factory supplying the court of the French monarchs since Louis XIV, and it is now run by the ''Administration générale du Mobilier national et des Manufactures nationales de tapis et tapisseries'' of the French Ministry of Culture.
