Gößnitz–Gera Railway
The Gößnitz–Gera railway is a single-track main line in the German state of Thuringia, which was originally built and operated by the Gößnitz-Gera Railway Company. The route is an important section of a long-distance line connecting the west Saxon industrial district and western Germany (the Mid-German Connection). It runs from Gößnitz on the Leipzig–Hof railway, Leipzig–Hof line via Ronneburg, Thuringia, Ronneburg to Gera. History The railway line was opened on 28 December 1865 by the Gößnitz-Gera Railway Company () to connect the rising industrial centre of Gera (which then had about 16,000 inhabitants) to the West Saxon industrial district. The opening of the line also caused an economic boom in the towns of Schmölln and Ronneburg. On 1 January 1878 operation of the line was taken over by the Royal Saxon State Railways. Gößnitz Station
Gößnitz station is a railway station on the Leipzig–Hof railway, the Glauchau–Gößnitz railway and the Gößnitz–Gera railway, Gößnitz–Gera (Mid-Germany Railway) in Gößnitz in the German state of Thuringia. The station was opened on 15 March 1844 with the Altenburg–Crimmitschau section by the Saxon-Bavarian Railway Company (''Sächsisch-Baiersche Eisenbahn-Compagnie''). History On 1 July 1841, work began on the construction of the Leipzig–Hof railway, the first section of which opened to Altenburg station, Altenburg on 19 September 1842. The section to Gößnitz and Crimmitschau station, Crimmitschau was opened to on 15 March 1844 and the rest of the line was opened on 15 July 1851. Zwickau Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station of Zwickau in the German state of Saxony. History On 18 September 1845 Zwickau was connected by a branch line to the Leipzig–Reichenbach railway line. Gößnitz
Gößnitz () is a town in the Altenburger Land district, in Thuringia, Germany. It is situated on the river Pleiße, 12 km south of Altenburg, and 20 km northwest of Zwickau. Jena West Station
Jena West station is to the west of the centre of the city of Jena in the German state of Thuringia at the 22.59 km mark (from Weimar station) of the Weimar–Gera railway between Weimar, Jena-Göschwitz station and Gera Hauptbahnhof. This line is also called the ''Holzland Railway'' and it is part of the Mid-German Connection. The station is located in the suburb of Jena-Süd. Weimar station is the main station in the city of Weimar in the German state of Thuringia, located on the Thuringian Railway. It is an Intercity-Express stop on the line between Frankfurt am Main and Dresden. Weimar station is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 3 station.
