Gözler is a neighbourhood of the municipality and district of Pamukkale, Denizli Province, Turkey. Its population is 1,667 (2022). Before the 2013 reorganisation, it was a town (''belde''). It is situated to the south of Büyük Menderes River (historical ''Maeander'') and Adıgüzel Dam Adıgüzel Dam is an embankment dam on the Büyük Menderes River in Denizli Province, Turkey, built between 1976 and 1989. Pamukkale, Denizli
Pamukkale, formerly known as Akköy, is a municipality and Districts of Turkey, district of Denizli Province, Turkey. Its area is 823 km2, and its population is 347,926 (2022). It first came into existence with the fusion of two small villages, Aziziye and Sultaniye in reference to the 19th century Ottoman Empire, Ottoman sultan, founded by Dagestan, Dagestani refugees of the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). It officially acquired the status of a village in 1935 and became a township with its own municipality in 1971. Akköy became a district center in 1990. As a part of the 2013 Turkish local government reorganisation, 2013 local government reorganisation, it absorbed part of the former central district of Denizli, and was renamed to ''Pamukkale''. Pamukkale center lies at a distance of 23 km from Denizli center, with which it shares the same plain. Denizli Province () () is a province and metropolitan municipality of Turkey in Western Anatolia, on high ground above the Aegean coast. Neighbouring provinces are Uşak to the north, Burdur, Isparta, Afyon to the east, Aydın, Manisa to the west and Muğla to the south. Belde
Belde (literally "town", also known as ''kasaba'') means "large village with a municipality" in Turkish language, Turkish. All Turkish province centers and district centers have municipalities, but the Villages of Turkey, villages are usually too small to have municipalities. The population in some villages may exceed 2000 and in such villages a small municipality may be established depending on residents' choice. Such villages are called ''belde''. Up to 2014 the number of ''belde'' municipalities was about 1400. On 30 March 2014 by the act no. 6360 all villages (those with and without municipality) were included in the urban fabric of the district municipalities in 30 provinces. Thus ''belde'' municipalities in 30 provinces were abolished. The number of abolished ''belde'' municipalities is 1040. Büyük Menderes River
The Büyük Menderes River ("Great Meander", historically the Maeander or Meander, from Ancient Greek: Μαίανδρος, ''Maíandros''; ), is a river in southwestern Turkey. It rises in west central Turkey near Dinar before flowing west through the Büyük Menderes graben until reaching the Aegean Sea in the proximity of the ancient Ionian city Miletus. The river was well known for its sinuous, curving pattern, and gives its name to the common term, (meander), used to describe these characteristic bends in rivers. Modern geography The river rises in a spring near Dinar and flows to Lake Işıklı. After passing the Adıgüzel Dam and the Cindere Dam, the river flows past Nazilli, Aydın and Söke before it drains into the Aegean Sea.
