Göttingen Boys' Choir
Göttingen Boys' Choir, founded in 1962, is a mixed boys choir (SATB). The choir consists, including pre-choruses, of about 120 singers aged 6 to 21. As a non-confessional municipal choir, it has been directed since 2003 by music teacher Michael Krause. History The Göttingen Boys' Choir emerged in 1962 as a school choir for a boys grammar school. Under the direction of its founder Franz Herzog, who received his musical training at the Dresdner Kreuzchor (Dresden Holy Cross Choir), the choir soon became famous outside Göttingen. As early as 1964, the choir was recorded for German public radio and television. Moreover, the Choir started to cooperate with the Göttingen International Handel Festival. After Franz Herzog's retirement for health reasons in 1980, Torsten Derlin (1985-1985), Martin Heubach (1985-1989), and Stefan Kaden (1989-2003) ran the choir. Boys' Choir
A boys' choir is a one made up of boys who have yet to begin (or are just in the early stages of) puberty and so retain their high-pitched childhood voice. Members are known as trebles ("boy sopranos") or meanes ("boy altos"), depending on their range. Boys' choirs of churches or cathedrals on both sides of the Atlantic may sing alongside and train with men, who provide the tenor and bass parts, in a tradition that dates back traceably to the 7th century, in the case of York Minster, and probably much further. Poznań Nightingales
The Poznańskie Słowiki (en: Poznań Nightingales fr: Rossignols de Poznan de: Posener Nachtigallen) is a leading Polish choir founded in 1939. When the Germans expelled the priest of Poznań Cathedral, Wacław Gieburowski (1878–1943), a choirboy Stefan Stuligrosz, then aged 19, took up running of choir in Gieburowski's name. After the war the choir was recognised and in 1950 became the Boys' and Men's Choir of the Poznań Philharmonic. The choir toured America in 1963, and many countries worldwide thereafter. Stuligrosz was the conductor of the choir (died in 2012)and composer of over 600 choral pieces.
