Gölbaşı Ground Station
The Gölbaşı Ground Station () is a ground station designed as a terminal for telecommunication with Türksat spacecraft. Owned and operated by the state-owned telecommunications provider Türksat company, it is situated in Gölbaşı district of Ankara Province in Turkey. The earth station was launched on 11 August 1994 to service Turkey's first communications satellite Türksat 1B. Its backup facility was on the campus of Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ), about away. The ground station consists of equipment including and parabolic antennas, electronic devices, data processing system and uninterrupted power supply unit for telecommunication with the Türksat 1C, 2A 3A satellites in orbit. Ground Station
A ground station, Earth station, or Earth terminal is a terrestrial radio station designed for extraplanetary telecommunication with spacecraft (constituting part of the ground segment of the spacecraft system), or reception of radio waves from astronomical radio sources. Ground stations may be located either on the surface of the Earth, or in its atmosphere. Earth stations communicate with spacecraft by transmitting and receiving radio waves in the super high frequency (SHF) or extremely high frequency (EHF) bands (e.g. microwaves). When a ground station successfully transmits radio waves to a spacecraft (or vice versa), it establishes a telecommunications link. Türksat 3A
Türksat 3A is a Turkish communications satellite, operated by Türksat. It was constructed by Thales Alenia Space, based on the Spacebus 4000B2 satellite bus, and was launched by Arianespace atop an Ariane 5ECA launch vehicle, along with the British Skynet 5C satellite, in a dual-payload launch on 12 June 2008 at 22:05:02 GMT, from ELA-3 at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana. It is part of the Turksat series of satellites, and is placed in geosynchronous orbit at 42°E to provide communications services to Turkey, Europe and the Middle East. The contract for the construction and in-orbit delivery of Türksat 3A was announced in February 2006. Positioned at 42°E, Türksat 3A replaced the aging Türksat 1C, which entered service in 1996.
