Górnik Zabrze is a team handball, men's handball club from Zabrze, Poland, that plays in the Polish Superliga (men's handball), Superliga. History The creation of the handball division dates back to 1947, when Pogoń Zabrze, founded in 1945, decided to create a handball division in addition to football and gymnastics. The creator of Pogoń handball was Józef Cholewa. In 1959, Pogoń's handball players were promoted to the Polish Superliga, first league and finished 6th in their debut season. In the 1966/1967 season, the club won the bronze medal of the Polish Superliga, Polish championship. Then the club was relegated from the Polish Superliga, first division. In the years 1973–2000, he played again in the Polish Superliga, first league. In the 1975/1976 and 1978/1979 seasons, he won a silver medal in the Polish Superliga, Polish championship. 1984 and 1988, the team won the Polish Handball Cup, Polish Cup. Zabrze (; German: 1915–1945: , full form: , , ) is an industrial city put under direct government rule in Silesia in southern Poland, near Katowice. It lies in the western part of the Metropolis GZM, a metropolis with a population of around 2 million. It is in the Silesian Highlands, on the Bytomka River, a tributary of the Oder.
