Gísli Þorgeir Kristjánsson
Gísli Þorgeir Kristjánsson (born 30 July 1999) is an Icelandic handball player who plays for SC Magdeburg and the Icelandic national team. He was named the Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year in 2023. Club career Gísli Þorgeir Kristjánsson made his debut for his boyhood club FH in the 2015/2016 season but it wasn't until the next season where he made his breakthrough to the first team. In the summer of 2018 he moved to the German Handball Bundesliga to THW Kiel, where he signed a three-year contract. With Kiel he won the DHB-Pokal in 2019 and became German champion 2020. In 2020, he transferred to SC Magdeburg. He won the IHF Super Globe 2021, and the 2020–21 EHF European League. In 2022 he got a silver medal in EHF European League, and became German Champion. He also won 2022 IHF Super Globe. He was awarded MVP of the 2022–23 Handball-Bundesliga, and of the 2022–23 EHF Champions League Final four. The EHF Champions League is the most important club handball competition for men's teams in Europe and involves the leading teams from the top European nations. The competition is organised every year by EHF. The official name for the men's competition is the EHF Champions League Men. The EHF coefficient rank decides which teams have access and in which stage they enter. Eligibility and qualifying Each year, the EHF publishes a ranking list of its member federations. 2023 IHF Men's Super Globe
‌The 2023 IHF Men's Super Globe was the 17th edition of the yearly club world championship in handball, held from 7 to 12 November 2023 in Dammam, Saudi Arabia under the aegis of the International Handball Federation (IHF). The Men's Super Globe is a handball competition contested between the champion clubs from continental confederations. On 7 December 2018, the IHF moved the Super Globe to Saudi Arabia for four years, until 2022. In May 2024, the IHF moved the Super Globe to Egypt, until 2026. The 2023–24 DHB-Pokal was the 47th edition of the tournament. SC Magdeburg won their third title by defeating MT Melsungen in the final. The 2018–19 DHB-Pokal was the 43rd edition of the tournament. THW Kiel won the cup for the eleventh time.
