Györgyi Balogh
Györgyi Balogh (born 1 May 1948) is a Hungarian former sprinter. She placed second in women's 200 metres at the 1971 European Championships in Helsinki and competed in the Summer Olympic Games in 1968 and 1972. Career At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City Balogh competed in the 100 metres, 200 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay, only qualifying from the first round in the 100 metres, in which she was eliminated in the second round. Balogh also competed in the 1969 European Championships in Athens without much more success, but two years later in Helsinki she won the silver at 200 metres, running 23.26 and losing only to East Germany's Renate Stecher. In addition, she placed fifth in both the 100 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay. She returned to the Olympics in 1972 Summer Olympics, this time running the 400 metres. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping and throwing. 1969 European Athletics Championships
The 1969 European Athletics Championships were the ninth European Athletics Championships which were held from 16–21 September 1969 at the Karaiskakis Stadium, Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece. New at these championships were the women's 1500 metres and the women's 4×400 metres relay event. Moreover, women's 80 metres hurdles was replaced by women's 100 metres hurdles. Contemporaneous reports on the event were given in the Glasgow Herald. Former East German runner Jürgen May, who had defected, was not allowed to compete for his new country, West Germany, due to IAAF rules requiring him to live there for at least three years; he had competed for East Germany in the 1966 European Athletics Championships – Men's 1500 metres, 1966 championships. Vasas SC () is a Hungarian sports club based in Budapest. Members of the ''Hungarian Union of Iron Workers'' founded the club as ''Vas- és Fémmunkások Sport Clubja'', the "Sport Club of Iron and Metal Workers", on 16 March 1911. The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. It has been featured in the athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1964 for women. On a standard outdoor running track, it is one lap around the track. Runners start in staggered positions and race in separate lanes for the entire course. In many countries, athletes previously competed in the 440-yard dash (402.336 m)—which is a quarter of a mile (1,760 yards) and was referred to as the "quarter-mile"—instead of the 400 m (437.445 yards), though this distance is now obsolete. 4 × 100 Metres Relay
The 4 × 100 metres relay or sprint relay is an athletics track event run in lanes over one lap of the track with four runners completing 100 metres each. The first runners must begin in the same stagger as for the individual 400 m race. Each runner carries a relay baton. Before 2018, the baton had to be passed within a 20 m changeover box, preceded by a 10-metre acceleration zone. With a rule change effective November 1, 2017, that zone was modified to include the acceleration zone as part of the passing zone, making the entire zone 30 metres in length. The outgoing runner cannot touch the baton until it has entered the zone, and the incoming runner cannot touch it after it has left the zone.
