Guðrún Sóley Gunnarsdóttir
Guðrún Sóley Gunnarsdóttir (born 15 September 1982) is an Icelandic former football defender who was part of Iceland's national team and competed at UEFA Women's Euro 2009. Guðrún was the captain of Breiðablik and also played in Sweden's Damallsvenskan for Djurgårdens IF Dam. During her career she won the Icelandic championship five times and the Icelandic Cup three times. In 2004, she won the NCAA championship with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Club career Named in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild's team of the year nine times, Guðrún was also named KR Reykjavík's player of the season in 2008. She had simultaneously completed a scholarship at the University of Notre Dame, where she played varsity soccer for the " Fighting Irish". For the 2009 season, Guðrún went on loan to Djurgårdens IF Dam in Sweden, where she joined compatriot Guðbjörg Gunnarsdóttir. Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (, ), commonly abbreviated to KR, is an Icelandic football club based in the Vesturbær district of the capital, Reykjavík. Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) was the top-level professional women's soccer league in the United States. It began play on March 29, 2009. The league was composed of seven teams for its first two seasons and fielded six teams for the 2011 season, with continued plans for future expansion. The WPS was the highest level in the United States soccer pyramid for the women's game. On January 30, 2012, the league announced suspension of the 2012 season, citing several internal organization struggles as the primary cause. Guðbjörg "Gugga" Gunnarsdóttir (born 18 May 1985) is an Icelandic footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Swedish Damallsvenskan club Eskilstuna United and Iceland's national team. She represented her country in the 2009 and 2013 editions of the UEFA Women's Championship. At club level Guðbjörg has previously represented LSK Kvinner FK and Avaldsnes IL of the Norwegian Toppserien, Turbine Potsdam of the German Frauen-Bundesliga and FH and Valur of the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild. In sports, a loan involves a particular player being able to temporarily play for a club other than the one to which they are currently contracted. Loan deals may last from a few weeks to a full season, sometimes persisting for multiple seasons at a time.
