Guðmundur Guðmundsson (handballer)
Guðmundur Þórður Guðmundsson (born 23 December 1960) is an Icelandic handball coach and former player. In 2016, he guided Denmark men's team to gold in the 2016 Olympics. In 2008, he won silver with the Icelandic men's national team at the 2008 Olympic games in China. As a player, he won the Icelandic championship six times and the Icelandic cup four times with Víkingur Reykjavík. Guðmundur also played for the Icelandic national team for a decade, participating in two Olympics and two IHF World Handball Championship. Playing career Club career Guðmundur started his senior team career with Víkingur Reykjavík in 1979. With Víkingur, he won six national championships and four national Cups. In 1992, he joined Afturelding where he finished his playing career in 1995. National team career From 1980 to 1990, Guðmundur played 231 games for the Icelandic national team, scoring 354 goals. The men's tournament of Handball at the 2016 Summer Olympics at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, began on 7 August and ended on 21 August 2016. Games were held at the Future Arena. Bogdan Kowalczyk
Bogdan Kowalczyk (born 12 August 1946) is a former Polish handball player who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympics and then became a handball coach; he coached the Iceland men's national handball team to victory in the 1989 World Men's Handball Championship of B teams and was later coach of the Polish national team. He is widely considered to be a major influence on the development of handball in Iceland. Playing career Kowalczyk was born in Warsaw. He began his career as a handball player with Warszawianka in 1961, where he was on the team that won the Polish Junior Championships in 1964. THW Kiel is a professional handball club from Kiel, Germany. Alfreð Gíslason
Alfreð Gíslason (born 7 September 1959) is an Icelandic handball coach and former player who is currently the head coach of the German men's national team. He won titles in Iceland, Germany and Spain as a player before starting his coaching career in 1991 with Icelandic team KA as a player-coach. He later coached German club SC Magdeburg, where he won the Bundesliga and the EHF Champions League, the Icelandic men's national team and German club THW Kiel, where he won six Bundesliga, six DHB-Pokal and two EHF Champions League titles.
