Gunnhildur Gunnarsdóttir
Gunnhildur Gunnarsdóttir (born 7 August 1990) is an Icelandic basketball player and a former member of the Iceland women's national basketball team, Icelandic national basketball team. During her career, she won the Úrvalsdeild kvenna (basketball), Icelandic championship and the Icelandic Women's Basketball Cup, Icelandic Cup twice each. In 2016, she was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the Year, Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year. Career Gunnhildur played with Haukar women's basketball, Haukar from 2010 to 2014 and helped the club to the Úrvalsdeild finals twice, in 2012 when it lost to Njarðvík (basketball club), Njarðvík and in 2014 when it lost to her hometown team of Snæfell women's basketball, Snæfell. She helped Snæfell to the 2015 Úrvalsdeild finals, her third finals trip in four years. Guard (basketball)
Basketball is a sport with five players on the court for each team at a time. Each player is assigned to different positions defined by the strategic role they play. Guard, forward and center are the three main position categories. The standard team features two guards, two forwards, and a center. The guards are typically called the "back court" and the forwards and centers the "front court". Njarðvík () is a town in southwestern Iceland, on the peninsula of Reykjanes. As of 2009, its population was 4,400. The Icelandic Women's Basketball Company Cup, commonly known as the Women's Company Cup (Icelandic: Fyrirtækjabikar kvenna), was an annual basketball competition between clubs in Iceland that was organized by the Icelandic Basketball Federation. Stjarnan Women's Basketball
The Stjarnan women's basketball team, commonly known as Stjarnan, is the women's basketball department of Ungmennafélagið Stjarnan, based in the town of Garðabær, Iceland. History In 2009, disgruntled Ármann players, unhappy with poor training facilities and lack of practice time, contacted Stjarnan and inquired if the board would be interested in starting a women's team. The board responded positively and in the end the entire Ármann team transferred over. The 2018–19 Úrvalsdeild kvenna was the 62nd season of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top tier women's basketball league on Iceland. The season started on 3 October 2018 and concluded on 27 April 2019 with Valur winning their first title after beating Keflavík 3–0 in the Úrvalsdeild finals. Competition format The participating teams first play a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent twice "home" and twice "away" for a total of 28 games.
