Cáceres, Mato Grosso
Cáceres is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. It covers an area of 24,000 km² and as of 2022 had an estimated population of 89,681. The town is sited on the Paraguay River, and hosts a popular fishing festival each September. The municipality contains part of the Serra das Araras Ecological Station. It also contains part of the Taiamã Ecological Station. The municipality contains the Guirá State Park, created in 2002. Cáceres was the starting point of the Roosevelt–Rondon Scientific Expedition. Mato Grosso ( – ) is one of the states of Brazil, the List of Brazilian states by area, third largest by area, located in the Central-West Region, Brazil, Central-West region. The Pantanal () is a natural region encompassing the world's largest tropical wetland area, and the world's largest Flooded grasslands and savannas, flooded grasslands. The Pantanal Matogrossense National Park () is a national park in the state of Mato Grosso at the border to Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Location Pantanal Matogrossense National Park has an area of . It is in the Pantanal biome. The park was created by decree nº 86.392 on 24 September 1981, and is managed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). It covers parts of the municipalities of Corumbá in Mato Grosso do Sul, and Cáceres and Poconé in Mato Grosso. It adjoins the Guirá State Park to the north. The Cuiabá River runs through Pantanal Matogrossense National Park.
