Guinguinéo Department
Guinguinéo is a township and urban commune in Kaolack Region in the center of Senegal, situated 22 km to the northeast of Kaolack. Before 1956, Guinguinéo experienced the phenomenon of kingdoms piloted by a succession of kings of whom the most famous was Maad Saloum Fode N'Gouye Joof (French: Fodé Diouf). Guinguinéo became a commune in 1956 and a full municipality in 1960. The first mayor was Doctor Charles Ndiaye. Transport Guinguinéo is served by a station on the main line of Dakar-Niger Railway and is also the junction for the branch line to Lydiane. However people mainly use the road for their travel because of the poor state of the train system. Guinguinéo occupied for a long time a good position on the railroad in Senegal, being the second station of the rail system after Thies, which is one reason why the town delayed making an asphalted road to join it directly with the other settlements of the country. Maad Saloum
Maad Saloum (variations :Maad a Saloum, Mad Saloum, Maat Saloum, Bour Saloum, Bur Saloum, etc.) means king of Saloum, in the Serer language. The ancient Kingdom of Saloum now part of present-day Senegal was a pre-colonial Serer kingdom. Their kings bore the title ''Maad'' or ''Mad'' (also ''Maat'' though rarely used). Maad Saloum Fode N'Gouye Joof (in Gambian English; or Fode Juuf in Serer) was the last king of Saloum. He reigned as Maad Saloum from 1935 to 1969. Souleymane Ndéné Ndiaye
Souleymane Ndéné Ndiaye (born 6 August 1958) is a Senegalese politician who was Prime Minister of Senegal from 2009 to 2012. He was Minister of the Civil Service and Labour in 2005, Director of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic from 2005 to 2007, and Minister of State for the Maritime Economy from 2007 to 2009. A lawyer by profession, Ndiaye is the president of the National Union for the People (UNP). He was also Mayor of Guinguinéo. Political career Ndiaye was born in Kaolack in 1958 and was first elected as Mayor of Guinguinéo in 2002. He served as Spokesman of President Abdoulaye Wade and as a Special Adviser to President Wade.
