Guillem De Ribes
Guillem de Ribes ()José María Coll"El trovador Guillem de Ribes, señor del castillo de San Pedro de Ribas" ''Analecta Sacra Tarraconensia'', 34:57–72. was a Catalan people, Catalan nobleman and troubadour, that is, a composer of music and Lyric poetry, lyric verse in the Old Occitan language. None of his works survive and he is known as a troubadour only from a single reference to him in a song by another troubadour Guillem was the son of Arnau de Ribes and younger brother of Ponç I de Ribes. The family were vassals of the Bishop of Barcelona. His father, a warrior, left the administration of the family castle, Sant Pere de Ribes, in the hands of his younger brother, Ramon I, for long periods and it was Ramon who inherited it after Arnau's death in 1168. Ponç, a warrior like his father, took over the lordship of the castle only after Ramon's death in 1180. Castell Ribes
A ''castell'' (: literally, ''castle'') is a Human tower (gymnastic formation), human tower built traditionally at festivals in a part of Catalonia (Spain), now also found in the rest of Catalonia, in the Balearic Islands, Balearic islands and in the Valencian Community. At these festivals, several ''colles castelleres'' (teams that build towers) attempt to build and then dismantle a tower's structure. On 16 November 2010, ''castells'' were declared by UNESCO to be amongst the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Origin Although based on the earlier traditional Muixeranga of Algemesí in Valencia, the tradition of ''castells'' within Catalonia originated in the ''Ball dels Valencians'' (Valencian Dance) in the town of Valls, near the city of Tarragona, first documented in 1712.
