Grădiștea is a commune located in Brăila County, Muntenia, Romania. It is composed of three villages: Grădiștea, Ibrianu, and Maraloiu. The commune is situated in the Bărăgan Plain, on the banks of the Buzău River. It is located in the northwestern part of Brăila County, north of the town of Ianca and west of the county seat, Brăila, on the border with Buzău County. Bărăgan Plain
The Bărăgan Plain ( ) is a steppe plain in south-eastern Romania. It makes up much of the eastern part of the Wallachian Plain. The region is known for its black soil and a rich humus, and is mostly a cereal-growing area. It is bounded on the south and east by the Danube, and in the North by the Buzău (river), Buzău and Călmățui (Brăila), Călmățui rivers, both tributaries of the Danube. The western limit is a line joining the cities of Buzău, Urziceni, Budești, and Oltenița. Ianca () is a town in Brăila County, Muntenia, Romania. With a population of 8,969 people as of 2021, it is the second-largest urban locality in the county. Râmnicu Sărat (also spelled ''Rîmnicu Sărat'', , or ''Rebnick''; ) is a municipiu, city in Buzău County, Romania, in the historical region of Muntenia. It was first attested in a document of 1439, and raised to the rank of ''municipiu'' in 1994. Ștefan Vasile "Fănuș" Neagu (5 April 1932 – 24 May 2011) was a Romanian novelist, playwright, journalist, and occasional film actor. Born to a peasant family in the Bărăgan Plain, he drew inspiration from that environment throughout his literary career. He undertook his training during the early stages of the Socialist Republic of Romania, communist regime, when he was still a teenager; in his early twenties, he was already pushing the limits of literary discourse, and the patience of Censorship in Communist Romania, ideological censors, acquiring his fame as an uncontainable rebel. Neagu's published debut came in 1959, and coincided with the onset of De-Stalinization in Romania, de-Stalinization.
