Grønlands Spejderkorps
The Greenland Guide and Scout Association (, ) is the youngest of the Denmark, Danish Scouting, Scout associations, founded on February 2, 1973. Previously Greenlandic boys had belonged to one of the Danish Scout associations and girls belonged to one of the corresponding Danish Guide associations. Scouting in Greenland started in 1943, and Girl Guides, Guiding began in 1950. Greenland Guide and Scout Association, however, is a coeducational organization, and has been recognized as an associate member of the Fællesrådet for Danmarks Drengespejdere since 1976 and of the Pigespejdernes Fællesråd Danmark since 1981. Initial grants from the Parliament of Greenland helped the fledgling organization. Today, the association has about 500 members. Coat Of Arms Of Greenland
The coat of arms of Greenland is a blue shield charged with an upright polar bear. This symbol was first introduced in the coat of arms of Denmark in 1666 and it is still represented in the arms of the Danish royal family. In a Danish context, the bear was originally shown walking naturally, but an upright position was specified in 1819. The 1470 ''London Roll'' shows an arms captioned ''Le Roy de Greneland'' featuring a shield depicting a polar bear surrounded by three birds. This royal title did not reflect any official title, but merely that the arms could be used by anyone controlling Greenland. The current coat of arms was designed by Greenlandic artist Jens Rosing and adopted on 1 May 1989 by the Parliament of Greenland, Landsting. Scouting And Guiding In Denmark
The Scout and Guide movement in Denmark consists of about ten different associations. Most of them are members of two large federations, but there are also some independent organizations. Affiliated to Danish Scouting and Guiding are the organizations in Greenland, on the Faroe Islands and in Southern Schleswig. Scouting in Denmark started in 1909. Danish Scouts were among the charter members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), Danish Guides among the founding members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). Girl Guiding in Denmark consists of girls only, while some WAGGGS countries allow boys to be included. De grønne pigespejdere is the only association for girls only - all the other organisations are mixed boys and girls. 'Boy Scout' and 'Girl Guide' are both translated to the Danish 'Spejder'.
